Alan Carr has clarified exactly why he will not be the new host of Strictly, and actually it makes sense
He is setting the record straightStrictly Come Dancing will be getting a brand-new host when it returns later this year, but unfortunately for fans, it will not be Alan Carr.
Last year, Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman shocked the world by revealing they would be leaving Strictly. Then in December, they hosted the show for the final time. There has been plenty of speculation on who will take their place.
Someone who had a lot of backing was Alan Carr. After fans became obsessed with him on Celebrity Traitors, many thought he would be perfect for the role. And it was even rumoured his co-presenter would be his close pal, Amanda Holden. But after the pair revealed they weren’t doing it, Alan has now clarified exactly why not.

Is Alan Carr the new host of Strictly Come Dancing?
The Daily Mail reported, that while speaking at a Q&A for his new Channel 4 show, Secret Genius, Alan finally explained why he doesn’t actually want to be the host of Strictly.
He did admit it would be “an honour” but that the BBC should give it to someone else.
He explained: “I just think I like watching the show. I don’t love it. So, I think it would be better for someone who really, really loves it, you know?”
That’s not the only reason. Alan admitted he is asked too often about competing on the show, so he doesn’t think he should be able to host it!
Alan continued: “They asked me all the time to be on it. But I just think, wouldn’t it be great to get someone fresh. Someone new.
“That show is so adored and so loved. You want someone in there who is like, ‘Yeah this Paso Doble was…’ I don’t give a [bleep]. Give it to someone else.”

Who else is in the running?
While many fans will be heartbroken to hear that Alan has refused the job, he isn’t the only person who has admitted they actually don’t want it.
Bradley Walsh recently revealed that he enjoys watching the show too much, and wouldn’t want to ruin his weekends. Although some people thought he was just double-bluffing.
But now that Alan Carr is officially out of the running for the new Strictly host, who will get the job?
Other stars who are reportedly in the running include Holly Willoughby, who could be making her huge TV comeback.
But one name that does seem to keep popping up is The One Show host, Alex Jones. She has been rumoured to be in the running alongside either Bradley Walsh or Strictly’s own Anton Du Beke!
No matter who gets the role, there are very big shoes to fill. But our eyes will be peeled until the announcement is made.
