Desperate Mark does the unthinkable in EastEnders next week as a deadly twist hits Walford

Mark's life of crime is only just beginning...

Mark Jr has had a busy week in EastEnders, and today’s episode saw him stoop to a new low as he targeted Lauren in a bid to make some quick cash. But next week sees a new deadly twist in Mark’s story when he goes to desperate lengths to pay off his debts.

Mark’s week went from bad to worse

After beating Ravi half to death earlier this week, Mark’s been under pressure from his boss to finish the job.

Vicki tried to persuade Mark that there must be another way to sort out the mess he’s got himself into. But he’d been told he had 24 hours to get rid of Ravi for good.

While Ravi’s mental health spiralled, Vicki took matters into her own hands and begged Phil to help Mark. While Phil was reluctant to get involved in his nephew’s drama, he agreed to make some calls.

Mark was grateful when Phil said he would pull some strings. And, like a knight in shining armour, Phil managed to get Mark off the hook with his boss. However, there was a catch. While he no longer had to kill Ravi, he now owed his gaffer £100k to settle his debt.

Phil saved the day – again!

Horrified that he now owed so much money, Mark knew there was no way he could get his hands on that kind of cash. So he took desperate measures… and unfortunately, Lauren got caught in the middle.

After promising Max she would sell the classic car at the car lot, Lauren couldn’t believe her luck when Mark took an interest in the motor. They took it for a test drive, and Lauren was convinced she had the sale in the bag. However, her hopes were dashed when Mark confessed he didn’t have the cash.

Lauren was miffed, but when Mark offered to buy her lunch to soften the blow, she agreed. As Mark left her to go and get some sandwiches, Lauren was attacked by a seemingly random thug, who hit her, knocked her to the ground and stole the keys before driving off in the car.

Mark races out to chase the car down the road and soon comes to Lauren’s aid, taking her back to Albert Square to her family.

While Peter played the worried husband to perfection, Max seemed to care more about the stolen car than his traumatised daughter and went to call the insurance company.

Meanwhile, Mark made a hasty exit, but not before accepting the cash for the taxi they had to get home from Max.

EastEnders: Mark Jr’s true colours were revealed

In a shock twist, Mark was later revealed to have set up the whole ordeal. He met up with the man who attacked Lauren and was fuming that she got hurt, telling him that wasn’t part of the deal.

But with Mark now stealing cars for quick cash to pay off his debts, it won’t be long before Lauren gets caught up in more drama over the coming weeks…

The drama continues in EastEnders next week for Mark

Next week, Mark makes a business proposition to Lauren. He offers to provide luxury cars for her to sell at the car lot. At first, she isn’t sure. But she eventually agrees and gets off to a good start when she sells one of the motors.

However, Callum arrives to tell her that the classic car that was stolen in the mugging has turned up. He also says other cars have gone missing in the local area, and the penny drops.

Realising that Mark’s cars might not be quite as legit as he promised, she goes to confront him. But what will she unearth?

The Lady soundtrack has legendary songs and an iconic theme tune with big link to the royals

The Lady, ITV's drama about ex-royal dresser and murderer Jane Andrews, has an amazing soundtrack – including a theme you've definitely heard before.

The four-part series follows Andrews (played by Mia McKenna-Bruce), a retail worker who dreams of fame and fortune. Her life changes when she lands a job at Buckingham Palace, working as one of Sarah Ferguson's (Natalie Dormer) dressers.

The pair quickly establish a cheeky, close rapport – but, be warned, this story doesn't have a happy ending. Years down the line, Andrews finds herself in court, charged with the murder of her boyfriend, Tom Cressman.

In short, it's a wild ride. The Lady charts Andrews' rise and catastrophic fall with a soundtrack full of bangers – if you're looking to add a few of them to your playlist, you're in the right place.

Why Champions League fans will recognise The Lady soundtrack

'Zadok the Priest', which plays in episode 1 shortly after Andrews joins the team at Buckingham Palace, will sound very familiar to footie fans.

It's the piece of music that directly inspired the UEFA Champions League theme.

In 1992, composer Tony Britten was tasked with coming up with a theme for the league. He leaned heavily on Zadok the Priest'(excluding, The champions!, obviously).

The original composition came from George Frideric Handel, and it was written for the coronation of King George II in 1727. Handel composed four coronation anthems in total.

For King Charles' coronation, this is the order they were played in:

  • Let Thy Hand Be Strengthened
  • Zadok the Priest
  • The King Shall Rejoice
  • My Heart is Inditing

The Lady soundtrack: Every song in the ITV series

The Lady takes place across three decades: the '80s, '90s, and early aughts.

Fittingly, its soundtrack somewhat endeavours to capture the musical spectrum of all three time periods. There's a Britpop classic from Blur, an all-time classic from Tears for Fears, and other tunes you'll recognise.

Episode 1 songs

  • Just Can’t Get Enough – Depeche Mode
  • The Only Way is Up – Yazz
  • Don’t Get Me Wrong – The Pretenders
  • Zadok the Priest – George Frideric Handel
  • Take on Me’– A-ha
  • You Got It – Roy Orbison

Songs in episode 2

  • What Is Love – Haddaway
  • Everybody Wants to Rule the World – Tears for Fears
  • Song 2 – Blur

Episode 3 songs

TBC

Music in episode 4

TBC

The meaning behind the songs is plainly obvious. Everybody Wants to Rule the World, a song all about mankind's inherent desire for power, plays when Andrews gets a taste of fame from paparazzi.

You Got It, a song about being loved and taken care of, plays as Andrews helps Fergie pick out her outfits – which appears to be a small nod to Julia Roberts' shopping spree in Pretty Woman, which was accompanied by Roy Orbison's title track.

Given Zadok the Priest plays during the anointing of a monarch at a coronation, you could even argue its inclusion indicates Andrews becoming one of the royals (at least in her own head).

Who composed the score for The Lady?

Chris Roe composed the score for ITV's The Lady.

He may not be a household name like Hans Zimmer and John Williams, but Roe's work is prolific, serving as composer on 47 projects.

This includes Jason Isaacs and Gillian Anderson's The Salt Path, Trigger Point, and Joanna Scanlan's After Love.

As his website explains, he's a multi-instrumentalist – as confident playing a piano as he is with any string instrument, and comfortable with a full orchestra or a remote, one-man set-up.
