Emmerdale has lined up a huge new Liam storyline, as the doctor was clearly hiding something. And now fans believe they know what it is.

Last week, Liam was acting strangely, and soon enough, Chas assumed he was having an affair with Manpreet. However, the pair explained that they were actually just going to murder mysteries together – and that was his secret.

But towards the end of Tuesday night’s episode, Liam acted shifty again when his past was brought up. And now Emmerdale fans have gone into detective mode to figure out the mystery.

Liam is definitely hiding something in Emmerdale

During last night’s episode, Liam discovered that the whole murder mystery Chas had set up was a sham. She had created the whole thing just to tell Liam she had booked their wedding day for January 29.

While he was delighted, it was very clear that something was bothering him. But when anyone asked, he pretended he was fine.

However, that changed when he had a private conversation with Dave – the man Chas had hired to be part of the game. Dave asked Liam where he was from and discovered they didn’t live far from each other.

Dave explained that Liam was very familiar to him, but “not as a Cavanagh”. However, every time Dave asked if they knew each other, Liam shut him down very abruptly.

Not much is known about Liam’s life before Emmerdale. But it seems something happened that he doesn’t want anyone to know about. And now Emmerdale fans think they know what it is.

Fans convinced they have worked out the truth

Taking to Reddit and social media, many Emmerdale fans discussed the possibility that Liam Cavanagh’s secret is actually linked to his late wife, Lara.

One fan penned: “What do you think Liam is hiding? Something from his past is clearly coming back up. But I don’t know what. Maybe something to do with Lara?”

This led to another fan predicting a very sinister twist: that Lara didn’t die of an allergic reaction, as we believe, but that Liam accidentally (or purposefully) killed her. And that could be why he has such a strong interest in murder mysteries.

They wrote: “I definitely think it could be to do with Lara. Maybe he loves murder mysteries because he was responsible for his wife’s death. Either that, or something to do with Leanna.”

Another agreed: “Yes, this makes so much sense. Something sinister like accidentally killing his wife.”

A third even suggested the possibility that Lara is still alive. They wrote: “I did also think there is a chance his wife is still alive? Maybe she’s been ‘missing’ and his love for mysteries has been because he is trying to solve it. Or he knows she is alive but there is a reason he’s keeping it from everyone.”

Whatever his secret is, we’re excited to learn more about Liam’s backstory.
