Emmerdale fans slam 'selfish' Sarah as she decides she wants a baby
Sarah's next move is not the wisestSarah Sugden in Emmerdale has decided she wants a baby, despite having a life-limiting condition that could see her only live to be 40.
She is determined this is what she wants, but is not accepting the reality of her situation. And those watching at home have called her ‘selfish’ over the plan.

Sarah and her baby plans in Emmerdale
After ending things for good with Jacob and being dumped by Kammy, Sarah has decided to wash her hands of men altogether. And while we can’t blame her for that, her next idea in her mission to live her life to the full has more than a few complications.
She told Vanessa on Monday night (April 28) that she had decided to have a baby. She doesn’t need a man and just wants to be a mum before it’s too late.
Sarah has life-limiting condition Fanconi anaemia, which is a complex medical condition. It could lead to bone marrow failure, physical abnormalities and organ defects. Sarah is also at an increased risk of certain types of cancer. In fact she has already battled throat cancer. And she has also had a heart transplant after suffering heart failure.
All of this means she has a limited life expectancy, which estimates suggesting she will only live until she’s 40.
Because of that, Sarah has been determined to live her life and experience as much joy as possible before she dies. So far that has included joyriding quad bikes and robbing Rodney’s van!
But now she thinks having a baby is the answer to fulfilment. She chats to Manpreet on Tuesday (April 29) expressing her desires. Although Manpreet tries to advise her it’s not likely to happen, Sarah refuses to accept reality and insists she’s found other cases where it’s worked out for the women involved.
She vows to push ahead and starts contacting fertility clinics to get the ball rolling. But will she be left broken hearted?

Fans call Sarah ‘selfish’
Despite her reasoning for wanting to be a mum, viewers are not impressed with her plan. They think she is selfish, given she knows she will die sooner rather than later, leaving the child without a mother.
“A tad selfish of Sarah to want to bring a child into this world considering she might not live long enough to bring it up,” shared one fan on social media.
Another stated: “Sarah has a life-limiting condition and wants a baby…”
“Why in the hell are they trying to do an IVF storyline with a young Sarah WTH???” raged a third.
One more wrote: “Can someone just grab Sarah and slap the [bleep] out of her. She has to be the world’s most irritating teenager. Wanting a baby, whatever next.”
“Sarah who was worrying about being with a guy cos she could die anytime, now wants a baby that she could die anytime on leaving it without a mum and I’m guessing no dad around,” queried a fifth.
Ellis series 2: Channel 5 confirms start date as UK’s first black solo female-led detective series returns
Channel 5 and Acorn TV have revealed that the detective drama filmed new episodes over spring 2025. Sharon D Clarke and Andrew Gower are returning to reprise their roles.
This follows the success of the first series of the ground-breaking detective drama. It received critical acclaim for being the first black solo female-led detective series in the UK.
Here's everything we know about series 2 of Ellis, including plot, cast, episode guide, location, and start date...

Is there a series 2 of Ellis?
Channel 5 and Acorn commissioned Ellis for a series 2 in May 2025.
Acorn TV said: "Ellis was an instant fan-favourite for the Acorn TV audience and met with rave reviews from top critics for its elevated and smart storytelling brought to life by the incomparable Sharon D Clarke and Andrew Gower. We could not be more excited to dive in on a second season of unpredictable, edge-of-your-seat cases with this dynamic pair."
Like Vera, Ellis has the potential to run and run. After all, Vera aired on ITV for over 14 years. There's no reason why Ellis can't do the same.
Like Inspector Morse, DCI Ellis hasn't yet shared her first name... Nor do we know why she's been on gardening leave. There's still so much to learn about the mysterious Ellis.
What's the plot?
Series 2 will once again follow DCI Ellis. Ellis is a tenacious cop who is "parachuted into failing investigations across the north of England". DS Harper, her right-hand man, will be by her side. They'll return to fight a system rife with flaws.
Channel 5 said: "As a black female cop, Ellis is used to being dismissed and overlooked. But she is a first-class murder detective. Ellis is known for her determination for justice and a deep well of compassion for those who need it."
A synopsis for Ellis series 2 says: "Fresh from her victories in series one, DCI Ellis is once again parachuted into failing cases across the north of England. With Harper at her side, she faces a new wave of fractured communities and suspicious deaths. The crimes subsequently test her forensic brilliance as well as her resilience.
"The series takes them from a rural village, where the suspicious death of a beloved community leader exposes long-nursed resentments, to the industrial shadow of a stone works, where the death of a young woman reveals a hidden network of coercion and exploitation. Every case peels back layers of silence, ambition, and betrayal."

Who's in the cast?
Three-time Olivier Award-winner and BAFTA nominee Sharon D Clarke returns as DCI Ellis. TV viewers will know her best for playing Lola Griffin in Holby City on and off for 14 years. She's also famous for roles in Mr Loverman, Showtrial, Lost Boys & Fairies, Doctor Who, and the film Rocketman.
Sharon D Clarke said: "I am thrilled to return as DCI Ellis. The response to the first series was overwhelming, and I am excited to continue this journey with such a talented team, especially with the wonderful Andrew Gower by my side.
"Ellis is a character who resonates deeply, and I can't wait for audiences to see what we have in store for her and Harper in series two."
Andrew Gower is also back playing DS Harper. He's best known for starring in Sherwood, The Winter King, Carnival Row, and Outlander.
Like series 1, we've every right to expect some decent guest cast names, following on from actors such as Charley Webb, and Charlie Melo. And we won't be disappointed. Upcoming guest stars include Mark Eddy, and Stephen Tompkinson.
How many episodes is Ellis series 2?
Like the first run, series 2 will be three episodes of 120 minutes long. They will go out on consecutive nights in the style of Silent Witness on BBC One.
On bringing the series back, Commissioning Editor Paul Testar said: "Following the huge success of the first series of Ellis, we are thrilled for it to return with the brilliant Sharon D Clarke and Andrew Gower reprising their roles.
"We can't wait to bring the detective duo back to Channel 5's audience."

When will Channel 5 release Ellis?
Acclaimed detective series Ellis, starring Sharon D Clarke, is confirmed to return on Tuesday, March 10, and Wednesday, March 11, at 9pm.
You can watch on Channel 5 or stream on 5.
Ellis series 1 reviews
In 2024, Ellis received plenty of positive reviews from TV critics. First of all, Radio Times said: "Ellis marks something major not just for Channel 5 but for television in general. Ellis is the British detective drama that the genre has been crying out for."
The Times said: "The first black female lead in a UK TV detective series is a surly, complex figure. I could watch her glaring down hapless plods in regional police stations all day."
Lastly, The Sun added: "Excellent series. It's a great concept with plenty of legs. Highly recommended."

How can I watch it?
Ellis arrived on our screens at the end of October 2024, and a short series followed. The final episode of series 1 aired on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
Series 1 is currently available to stream on Channel5.com and will be available to watch on Acorn from Monday, May 19, 2025.
Series 1 comprised of three feature-length episodes, which were 120 minutes each (like Vera, Ridley, and Karen Pirie over on ITV).
Fans begged for a series 2 of Ellis
Channel 5 viewers expressed their hope for a series 2. One fan simply wrote: "Really enjoying this series - I hope more are made."
Another added: "Hope this becomes a firm regular Channel 5."
A third also wrote: "I like watching a good gritty detective show on the telly, and Ellis is outstanding. Sadly, there's only three long episodes for series 1. I'd like to see more stories."
