I’m A Celebrity star Scarlett Moffatt has revealed why she laughed at David Haye when he spoke about the “ugly bird syndrome” earlier this week.

The former boxer, 45, came under fire this week over “misogynistic” comments he made during a chat with his campmates.

What did David Haye say on I’m A Celebrity?

Earlier this week, during a conversation with his all-star campmates, David shared his bizarre “ugly bird syndrome” theory.

Speaking about his partner, Sian, David said: “She’s lovely. She’s got the personality of a proper ugly bird.”

“You can’t say that, David!” Scarlett laughed. “What does that even mean?”

“Most ugly girls realise they gotta have a personality, to banter and tell jokes and [bleep], so people overlook the fact that they’re not aesthetically amazing straight away,” David explained.

“It’s called ugly duckling syndrome. Where you get them when girls are ugly, when they start off, and then they get prettier as they get older, but they’ve still got the personality of when they were ugly.”

“David!” Scarlett laughed again, while Ashley Roberts cringed and muttered: “Oh dear god”.

Scarlett under fire

Whilst David was criticised for his comments, Scarlett came under fire for her reaction. The star was seen laughing off the boxer’s comments.

“Scarlet laughing it off really annoyed me too,” one viewer commented under a video of This Morning star Ashley James slamming David’s remarks.

“Her laughing and taking it or making it as a joke gives the message that it’s ok for him to speak like that. She’s let the side down. Pathetic to just lie there laughing at that,” another said.

A third comment on Ashley’s post read: “That’s our girl @scarlettmoffatt”.

Scarlett herself then commented under it, explaining why she reacted the way she did.

“I think I was nervous laughing here out of sheer disbelief,” she explained.

David slammed again

Last night saw David come under fire again, this time for breaking Harry Redknapp’s throne.

The camp has been split into two. Attempting to steal food from the other team last night, David climbed up on Harry’s throne and tried to grab the food bag as it was transported to camp via zipwire. He failed to catch it, but managed to break Harry’s chair in the process.

Harry appeared to laugh it off, however, David didn’t apologise, and even suggested that the chair was “better” now it was broken.

Viewers weren’t happy and took to social media to slam him.

“Not only did David try to steal the food, but he broke Harry’s chair; he’s such a [bleep],” one fan fumed.

“David’s such a helmet, not only did he pure yeet himself near Harry’s way, broken his chair fml, not [bleeped] by him in the slightest by,” another said.
