Is Harry dead? All we know about his fate as hostage ordeal finally ends

It's not looking good for Harry
Joel Harley

Harry Mitchell’s life hung in the balance in EastEnders tonight (Tuesday, November 4) as the situation at Kojo’s flat finally came to a dramatic end. With George and Junior now aware of everything that’s been going on, they rushed over with Teddy to save Harry and Kojo.

And they were just in the nick of time, rescuing Harry just as Okie and his thugs were about to whisk him away for good. But, as the episode ended, poor drugged, starved, beaten-up Harry wasn’t in a good place.

Is Harry dead? And what does the future hold for Kojo, Ravi and everyone else involved?

Here’s what happened in EastEnders tonight – and what happens next too.

Teddy raised the alarm in EastEnders tonight

Teddy had returned from Cardiff, utterly luckless in his mission of finding Harry and Kojo. He headed straight to Kojo’s flat, banging on the door in the hope that Harry had returned in his absence.

Harry and Kojo were inside of course – although Okie and one of his thugs were holding them both quiet. Spotting Teddy at the door, Junior enquired how his trip to Cardiff had gone. Out of ideas, Teddy instructed him to fetch George.

Teddy returned home where he found Barney, part-way through a Bruce Lee binge. After sending his other son out for the day, Teddy hosted a visit from George and Junior. He explained what had happened, revealing how Ravi and Okie had been using the flat to package and distribute drugs.

George immediately went to call the police, although Teddy was quick to point out that Kojo could go to prison for what he’d done. Rather than storming straight over to the flat, the three men sat and debated what to do next.

Kojo escaped the flat in EastEnders tonight

Meanwhile, at the flat, Kojo was panicking over sick Harry. Already stressed out over the business, Okie promised to fetch some painkillers, before leaving – ordering Kojo not to leave on his way out.

Finding the key to Harry’s chains in one of Okie’s bags, Kojo released his friend. Poor Harry was too weak to walk though, and begged Kojo to save himself.

As George, Teddy and Junior continued their debate, a panicked Kojo came rushing in. Revealing that an imperiled Harry was at the flat, Kojo ran off again – with Teddy and George in hot pursuit.

Meanwhile, Harry, all alone in the flat, struggled to pull himself across the floor as Okie returned. Realising that Kojo had fled, Okie began laying into Harry. Kojo, George and Teddy arrived at the flat moments later, to find it empty.

As Kojo and Teddy gave chase, George regarded the situation in the flat, finding Kojo’s smashed-up taxi. Meanwhile, Teddy and Kojo found Okie and his boys, trying to drag Harry into the back of a van.

The van sped away – minus Harry, thankfully – as the police arrived on the scene. With Harry unconscious and unresponsive, Kojo was horrified to realise that George had called the police.

Is Harry dead? What happens next as hostage ordeal ends

While EastEnders spoilers for tomorrow and Wednesday don’t reveal Harry’s fate, he seems to be alive and well as the story continues next week. With the police getting involved, Priya storms over and accuses him of lying about Ravi’s involvement in the drugs operation.

Matters go from bad to worse when Okie returns to The Square. After cornering Kojo at the flat, he demands that Kojo text Harry and bring him over.

Suffering from withdrawals, Harry has gone to see a dealer about some drugs – but rushes to Kojo’s side when he gets his message. As a fight breaks out, Harry ends up accidentally stabbing Okie.

What will become of Harry and Okie?

The Good Ship Murder guest cast episode 3: Sally Howitt plays Dawn Blakely

Scottish actress Sally Howitt appears in the guest cast of The Good Ship Murder series 3 episode 3. The 60-year old portrays Dawn Blakely who has a crucial role in the Istanbul episode, but you'll find no spoilers here!

Oban-born Sally will be very well known to fans of Scottish soap River City. She's portrayed Scarlett O'Hara née Adams ever since 2003, and is one of the show's longest serving cast members. She left in 2009 but returned in 2012.

Scarlett is "sassy, brashy, with a tough exterior that belies her soft heart". Talking about her character, actress Sally has said: "I've played funny and hard-nosed characters before, but never a matriarch. It's a really different experience for me because Scarlett's a mum of three but I don't have any children in real life."

Sally started her screen career in 1992, playing Charlie Chaplin in one episode of the legal drama The Advocates. She went on to appear in Scottish comedies including The Tales of Para Handy, The High Life, Rab C. Nesbitt, Bad Boys, and The Baldy Man.

More recently, Sally portrayed Diane MacArthur in the Hulu comedy Dinosaurs. As River City comes to an end, Sally will be joining the cast of Counsels (see more on that below).

The series will follow young lawyers as they navigate the "intense demands of their early careers while dealing with personal dramas and relationships, all during a pivotal time in their professional development".

Has River City been axed?

Sadly, River City is coming to an end in 2026. BBC Scotland announced in March 2025 that River City would end in 2026. The final series will air in autumn 2026.

A statement from the Beeb said: "BBC Scotland will be saying a fond farewell to long-running drama series, River City, and the residents of Shieldinch next year after more than 20 years on screen. The drama, which has entertained audiences since 2002, will air its final series in autumn 2026.

"Reflecting a significant change in audience behaviour away from long-running series and towards shorter runs, the BBC will make a considerable boost in major drama productions set across Scotland, moving the River City investment, starting with three new series – Counsels, Grams and The Young Team."

Hayley Valentine, Director of BBC Scotland said: "River City has been a wonderful adventure and of course we'll all be sad to see it go. The team have done a brilliant job and I know they have some big plans for the finale."

Louise Thornton, Head of Commissioning at BBC Scotland, added: "We are incredibly proud of River City and it is with great sadness that we have come to this difficult decision."
