'It didn't need to change!' MasterChef: The Professionals backlash as show returns to a smorgasbord of complaints
'Too many cooks…'
MasterChef: The Professionals was back for a brand-new series on BBC One last night (February 10). It was also the first episode with Saturday Kitchen Live presenter Matt Tebbutt as the new host.
Judges Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti both returned to the series. But complaints poured in after it fell to someone else to put the show’s first four professional chefs through their paces.

MasterChef: The Professionals debuts to flood of complaints
On the show last night, Marcus, Monica and Matt were also joined by 2016’s MasterChef: The Professionals winner Gary Maclean.
Gary was tasked with setting the skills test for the chefs. He asked them to prepare a dish of venison, which they had to bone before cooking. However, viewers were left unhappy that they didn’t get to see Marcus and Monica cooking on the show. As a result, complaints poured in.

“You know the saying ‘too many cooks spoil the broth’, that’s what’s going on with #Masterchef tonight. The format didn’t need to change,” said one.
“I’m sorry they changed the skills test. It was good seeing Marcus and Monica do the cooking rather than people we don’t know,” said a second.
“Totally agree, it spoiled it for me,” a third added.
“Why have they changed the skills test? Don’t mind it per se, but watching Monica and Marcus making stuff was cool,” another agreed.
Another perplexed viewer added: “Why do they have three judges, and why are we watching the other guy giving a running commentary whilst he watches it in another room?”

Matt Tebbutt escapes largely unscathed
Following Gregg Wallace’s axe, last night marked Matt Tebbutt’s MasterChef: The Professionals debut. And he was largely well-received by viewers.
“Loving the new MasterChef line-up!! It’s been needing a revamp for years!” declared one.
“Matt seems to fit in as the new judge,” said another, who added they were pleased the series was back.
“Aw yay Matt, I like him and unlike Gregg he’s actually talented,” said a third.
