Netflix finally unveils January 7 announcement with new Millie Bobby Brown movie after Stranger Things
Don't get your hopes up for another Stranger Things episode
Netflix has dropped a massive announcement, as expected after all of its January 7 teases. Stranger Things fans may be a little disappointed, but Millie Bobby Brown has a new movie in store.
The fallout of the Stranger Things finale has been wild. In the week since it dropped, fans concocted a theory – based on dozens upon dozens of ‘clues’ – that a secret episode 9 would be released on Netflix. They called it ‘conformity gate’.
Surprise, surprise, today’s the day it was supposed to drop… and if you look up Stranger Things on the platform, nothing has changed.
However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t just cause to get excited. 2026 is set to be another big year for the streamer, and Brown is headlining a major film later this year.
Millie Bobby Brown returns as Netflix announcement confirms Enola Holmes 3
In a new video promoting Netflix’s 2026 slate, we get a brief glimpse of a playing card (captioned ‘Justice’) with Millie Bobby Brown’s detective on it.
We then see Louis Partridge’s Tewkesbury proposing to Brown’s Enola. As the narrator tells the viewer to question everything, Brown lifts her head and exclaims, “Everything?”
The threequel will follow Enola as she travels to Malta, “where personal and professional dreams collide on a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before”.
It’s directed by Philip Barantini and written by Jack Thorne, the creative duo behind Adolescence (the best TV show of 2025).
In an earlier interview with Collider, Brown promised that the next entry in the Enola Holmes series will give people what they’ve asked for: romance.
“You asked for romance, so we’ll give you romance,” she said, teasing that she’s playing a “very different Enola” this time.

Did Netflix announce anything to do with Stranger Things on January 7?
No, Stranger Things was absent from Netflix’s ‘Discover Your Future 2026’ video and there haven’t been any new announcements.
That should have been expected, especially since a documentary about the making of the fifth season drops next week.
Plus, we already know two spin-offs are in the works. One of which – Tales from ’85, an animated series – will premiere later this year.

Still, that doesn’t mean you can’t be disappointed – and going by the comments, you wouldn’t be the only one.
“The fact that nobody cared about the new releases of 2026 and they just wants answers for Stranger Things,” one comment reads.
“I clicked on it thinking it was another Stranger Things trailer,” another user wrote. “Netflix… it was suppose to be a Stranger Things episode 9 trailer,” a third commented.

Netflix confirms big 2026 release dates for new shows
Looking ahead, there is loads to look forward to on Netflix. Bridgerton season 4 will continue soon, with part 1 dropping on January 26 and part 2 following on February 26.
