The truth behind farmer Celia Daniels’ character in Emmerdale was revealed last week. She is a drug boss and the mum of Ray Walters, who is using April and Dylan to deal his stuff.

Hot on the heels of John Sugden’s exit, the soap introducing yet another villain has caused some concern.

And in a new poll it’s been revealed that fans aren’t happy with the twist in Celia’s story. They have insisted we do no need more evil people and it’s time for a bit of peace and quite in the Yorkshire Dales.

Who is Celia Daniels in Emmerdale?

Celia arrived in Emmerdale as a farmer renting the land near Moira’s. Little was known about her then, except her reputation for being nasty.

At the time of her casting, actress Jaye Griffiths, who plays her said: “Without giving the game away she is very different to anyone I have played before. I can’t wait to really get into the heart of her storyline.”

Producer Laura Shaw also added: “We are absolutely delighted to have Jaye Griffiths joining us to play the role of Celia. Having recently taken over a nearby farm, not much is known about mysterious Celia’s past before arriving on the outskirts of the village.

“While Celia has a tough edge with an air of respectability, the audience, and our villagers, will soon start to see what this woman is truly capable of.”

And now we know what she is capable of after she revealed herself to April as the ringleader of the county lines gang. She slapped April, who was planning to confess, and called her an ‘ungrateful wretch’. She also called Ray, who is her son, “a useless, pathetic, weak little man”. The next day he wished Celia dead and told her he hated her.

So she is not nice at all – even her son doesn’t think so. But does that mean she’s not a good character to have?

New poll confirms fan opinion

When she first arrived in Emmerdale, viewers were pleasantly impressed by Celia. They said she was giving off ‘Kim Tate vibes’ from when she was first in the show in the 90s.

But now the truth about her has been revealed fans are now not happy. Endearing bad is good, but downright evil is not.

In an exclusive poll for Emmerdale Insider, a whooping 76 percent of viewers have said they do not like Celia. They think the storyline is boring and have insisted Emmerdale does not need another baddie.

Four percent said they liked her and were pleased she was here to shake things up. Just 19 percent felt she was a good character, but that this storyline has ruined her.

More to come from Celia in Emmerdale

Actress Jaye has since added: “At last the audience have seen the familial link between her and Ray and the fact she is the mastermind behind it all,” Jaye said.

“There is lots more drama to come but I feel that the context of the whole operation is now apparent and so the audience will now be fearing how trapped these kids are as it’s very clear Celia and Ray are not beginners at this.”

Things are going to get very dark – but we’re not sure viewers are happy about that.
