Si King has shared that the Hairy Bikers are no more following the death of his co-star Dave Myers.

Si and his best friend Dave both found fame as part of the motorcycle-riding cooking duo in the early 2000s. Tragically, Dave died aged 66 in February 2024 after his battle with cancer.

The pair first met on the set of a TV drama in 1995. They went on to build a huge TV career together, hosting their own BBC Two cookery show, The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook, between 2004 and 2008.

The nation fell in love with the duo, who went on to star in countless other shows, including The Hairy Bikers Go North and Hairy Dieters.

Si King reveals the ‘Hairy Bikers are no longer’ without Dave Myers

In a new interview with the Radio Times, Si revealed Dave will not be replaced and that the Hairy Bikers are no longer.

“It’s done. That’s it. The Bikers were plural. There’s no Hairy Bikers without my mate,” he announced, declaring that “nobody’s ever going to take his place”.

“He doesn’t stop being your best mate just because he’s passed away. That’s never going to go,” Si continued.

“We were like brothers: we drove each other mad, because we were two very different people, but we absolutely adored each other.”

Si insisted he doesn’t want to “look in the rear-view mirror of my motorcycle and see anyone else there”.

‘You’re mates for life and death’

In 2024, Si honoured Dave with a special one-off documentary with the BBC.

“It is about a celebration of my best mate and so it should be, because he was wonderful, and remains to be wonderful, because his energy’s still about, that’s for sure,” he told the BBC.

Si noted he is “always talking” to Dave, explaining: “I’ll go, ‘What do you think of that dude?’ I mean, people will think I’ve lost my mind.”

Si continued to elaborate that death doesn’t mean the end of a friendship:  “That’s not how that works. You know, you’re mates for life and death.”
