Silent Witness series 29: Cast of The Enemy Within Part 1 and 2 includes Phaldut Sharma, Selin Hizli, and Gerard Kearns

Silent Witness continues this Tuesday and Wednesday with the two-parter The Enemy Within, and you’ll see some very recognisable guest stars in the cast. These include faces from shows such as Shameless, Unforgotten, Slow Horses, and Malpractice.
The fifth and sixth episodes of a 10-part series (February 17 and 18) return to The Bowman Centre, where forensic pathologists Nikki and Jack face another tough week. Yep, the episodes come a day later than usual due to football).
In The Enemy Within, the forensic crime team look into a fatal stabbing that appears to have been racially motivated. As the investigation unfolds, they uncover evidence pointing to a likely suspect. However, as they do, racial tensions rise all across the city.
At the same time, Jack’s new gym buddies turn out NOT to be the men he thought they were. And Kit begins to have doubts about her relationship with Magath…

Silent Witness The Enemy Within cast: Selin Hizli plays DI Kayla Baran
Oxford-born Selin Hizli, 36, portrays DI Kayla Baran in the guest cast of Silent Witness series 29. She is most famous for having created and written the comedy series Am I Being Unreasonable? alongside co-star – and real life friend – Daisy May Cooper. As well as creating the brilliantly funny series, Selin played Jen in the cast. The series first aired in 2022, with a sequel landing in 2025.
Grantchester fans might also know her best as Margaret Ward, a role she played from 2016 to 2017. The writer, producer and actress is also famous for her starring role in the second and third series of the BBC One drama Land Girls. She played Connie Carter in the 2011 series.
Her very first TV role was playing Fred and Rose West’s daughter Mae in the ITV drama Appropriate Adult. Selin – who has a Turkish father – went on to play Sara Waldman in Law & Order: UK. Other notable roles include Lucy Packard in Casualty, and Doris Aston in Call the Midwife.
She first worked with good friend Daisy May Cooper in the This Country pilot in 2014, before popping up as Stacey Bell in Luther. After her starring role as the police junior office clerk in Grantchester, she portrayed Debbie in Mum, and Sasha Thompson in Deadwater Fell.
More recently, Selin played Samantha Wishart in ITVX thriller Six Four, Karen in Things You Should Have Done, and Dr Sophia Hernandez in the compelling Malpractice.
Gerard Kearns plays DC Jonno Magath
Manchester-born Gerard Kearns, 41, joins the cast of Silent Witness as DC Jonno Magath. He made his name playing Ian Gallagher in Channel comedy-drama Shameless, a role he played between
Gerard went on to play Daniel in The Town in 2012, Little Al in The Smoke, Halig in The Las Kingdom, and Pravik in Chernobyl. In 2020, the actor portrayed Tommy Marshall in period drama The English Game. The six-part series followed the invention of football and how it rose to become the world’s most popular game.
Just two years later, Gerard returned to the subject matter of football again. But this time, in a much darker role. He played former professional football player Andy Woodward, who was sexually abuse when he was a youth player. Jonas Armstrong played his abuser Barry Bennell.
More recently, Gerard has portrayed Henry Banks in Tom Hiddleston drama The Essex Serpent, Gary Cobb in The Day of the Jackal, and Dan’s dad in Waiting for the Out.
Silent Witness The Enemy Within cast: Chris Reilly stars as Chris
Glaswegian actor Chris Reilly plays Jack’s boxing ‘buddy’ in the latest episode of Silent Witness. He’s been on our screens ever since 2009 when he first popped up in the TV series Crash as a doctor. A year later, he was in the medical profession again, playing Ed Harman in Doctors, a role he played from 2010 to 2011.
Other notable roles include Andy in EastEnders, Sgt Tom Raveley in Homefront, Alan Isbister in Shetland, Jeff Patterson in Suspects, Ray Murray in Bang, and Sergeant Alex Baxter in The Last Post. Call the Midwife fans might remember him as Bernie Mullucks, a role he played in three episodes.
In 2019, Chris starred as Gil Tomine in The Feed, before subsequently appearing in Devils, and The Head. He’s actually popped up in Silent Witness before. In 2013, he portrayed a different character called Sean Nugent in the episodes Greater Love Part 1 and 2.
More recently, Chris is best known for playing the rather unlikeable Nick Duffy in Slow Horses. He also portrayed Terry in Generation Z.
Phaldut Sharma portrays Hamza Ahmed
Welsh actor Phaldut is probably best known for playing AJ Ahmed in EastEnders, a role he played from 2012 to 2014. He’s also famous for portraying Ranjit Singh in court room drama The Bench, Rajiv in Roger Roger, and Chief Constable Fraser in Sherwood.
Other notable roles include Vinnay Ramdas in Casualty, Tom in Hanna, Dr. Whittaker in The Accident, and Major Singh in The Singapore Grip.
More recently, he’s portrayed Kethan in Romantic Getaway, Garmen Harry in Full Circle, and Peetham Shah in the 2023 comedy drama Men Up.
Unforgotten fans will know Phaldut Sharma as Ram Sidhu. The character first appeared in the 2021 series 4 of Unforgotten. In that series, he was a policeman and one of the the suspects. Although he was not the murderer, Sunny charged him with preventing a lawful burial of a body. He was also culpable for being involved in a cocaine smuggling operation.
The character returned in series 6, this time in jail, because he was linked to Sunny and Jess’ new case.
Who else appears in Silent Witness tonight?
Nikolaos Brahimllari stars as Jack’s sparring partner Zolly (also listed as Zultan). The actor is probably best known for playing Adrian in Marbella, and Artan in Gangs of London.
Actor George Somner stars as Gary. He is famous for portraying Joe in Sex Education between 2020 and 2023. Other notable roles include Bronson in Bad Move, Al in This Is Going to Hurt, Tyro in This Town, and Gary in Henpocalypse! He’s also popped up as Spruce in the 2023 film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.
Jonas Khan portrays Destan Baran. Between 2013 and 2017, he played Captain Azizi in Our Girl, before going on to portray Ramin in Love, Lies and Records, Khadim Afzal in Ackley Bridge, and Dr Rajan Rayat in The Ipcress File.
His most famous role is probably Leon Sharma in Doctors, or Zain Rizwaan in Hollyoaks.
