Strictly’s Movie Week 2025: The songs and films

Some of this weekend’s movies and songs were revealed during Sunday’s results show. Claudia Winkleman spoke to the safe celebrities and pro dancers as some spilled exactly what they’re dancing to next.

The song that has resonated most with viewers is KPop Demon Hunters’ huge hit, Soda Pop. YouTuber George Clarke and his pro dancer Alexis Warr have been given the hit Netflix movie and song. As he found out his song, Harry laughed and (sarcastically) replied: “Yes! My favourite, that is such good news!”

But viewers are excited to see what they’ll do with Soda Pop. One fan wrote on X: “Brilliant news #Strictly is getting its 1st KPop Demon Hunters moment for movie week next week. George and Alexis are dancing to Soda Pop.”

KPop Demon Hunters is a viral Netflix cartoon following a K-pop (Korea pop) girl group who lead double lives as demon hunters. They face off against a rival boy band, the Saja Boys, whose members are secretly demons.

The movie is extremely popular worldwide. Their song, Golden, is one of this year’s biggest anthems. Soda Pop music video currently at 316million views on YouTube.

Other Strictly movies and songs

Doctor Who actress Alex Kingston and her pro partner Johannes Radebe revealed they will be taking on The Devil Wears Prada. They are keeping tight-lipped about their song choice.

Model and actress Ellie Goldstein and her pro Vito Coppola were excited to announce they’re doing the Barbie Movie this week. Ellie is a huge fan of Barbies and was Mattel’s official ambassador when the toy band launched its first Barbie with Down syndrome in 2023.

ITV showbiz reporter Ross King and his pro partner Jowita Przystal have the movie Thunderbirds. They will be dancing the Paso Doble. Former Love Islander and theatre musical star Amber Davies and pro Nikita Kuzmin are doing The Sound of Music. Their song is also being kept a secret, but Ross hinted it could be one of Amber’s “favourite things”…

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star La Voix and Aljaz Skorjanec are doing a Mary Poppins themed dance. La Voix squealed at hearing the news, saying: “I love Mary Poppins!” But Aljaz soon killed her excitement. He told her: “Not to Mary Poppins though. As the bird lady.”

We will be keeping our eyes and ears peeled for more song and movie announcements!

Movie Week treats

Strictly fans are in for a real treat with Movie Week – especially with the arrival of Cynthia.

The BBC synopsis reads: “The red carpet is rolled out for the first theme week of the series: movie night in the ballroom. Something wicked comes this way, as our pros pay homage to one of the highest grossing movie-musicals of all time, before our couples perform routines celebrating some of the best-loved films from across cinema history.

“As they do their best to impress the Judges and you at home, Academy Award-nominated Hollywood superstar Cynthia Erivo is on hand to help our couples deliver blockbuster performances. Whose routine will be a box office smash?”

Cynthia last appeared on Strictly Come Dancing four years ago. She replaced Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse during the covid pandemic as a guest judge.

She returns as a guest mentor to the Strictly stars in the training rooms and will also be giving her verdict on the night.

Strictly Movie Week fan theories

Although we don’t know all of the confirmed films, songs or dances for Strictly’s Movie Week, it hasn’t stopped fans theorising what else we might expect.

With Cynthia coming on as a guest mentor, some are convinced at least one of the couples will do a song from Wicked. Others suggested we might see something from Dirty Dancing, but one replied in a Strictly forum that we’ve “already seen enough” of that.

Someone else wrote: “I think it would be funny to see a Chicken Run-themed Jive to Flip, Flop, Fly (or even My Sweet Baby from the Netflix sequel. It most likely won’t happen, but it’s a cute concept. Another chimed in: “Someone has to be Mister Terrific and dance to 5 Years’ Time.” Interesting!

Strictly Come Dancing leaderboard

Following Saturday night’s performances, Alex topped the leaderboard. However, the Week 2 results are combined with the results from Week 1. This meant the actress actually moved down to fifth position with 52 total points.

Amber and Nikita sit in top position with 56 total points, while Lewis Cope and Katya Jones are in second place with 55 points. George and Alexis are in third with 54 points. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Lauren Oakley are in fourth with 52 overall points.

Right at the bottom of the leaderboard is Ross and Jowita, with 25 combined points, while Tom and Amy were just above them with 29. Chris Robshaw and Nadiya Bychkova actually scored 30, but ended up in the dance-off with Tom and Amy following the public vote. They cling on to see another week!
