Strictly Come Dancing contestant George Clarke revealed he injured his back during rehearsals ahead of last weekend’s performance.

The social media star, who is currently competing on the hit BBC show with Alexis Warr, performed a paso doble on Saturday (October 4).

The pair received a total score of 30 from the judges, landing themselves third on the leaderboard, just behind Amber Davies and Lewis Cope.

Strictly star George Clarke suffers injury ahead of live show

As they placed high on the leaderboard, Strictly stars George and Alexis also managed to avoid the bottom two on Sunday night.

However, little did viewers know, George needed physio for a back injury he sustained during rehearsals.

“I didn’t want it to be a thing on the night,” he revealed on his The Useless Hotline Podcast. “That’s why they asked in the VT, they were like, ‘Do you want to mention your back?’ and I said, ‘I don’t want it to be a thing.'”

George explained he had a “pinched nerve all week in my back”, stating that he had “acupuncture halfway through the week”.

The 25-year-old, who went to physio four times, said the injury happened after he did a handstand that went terribly wrong.

“I was like, ‘I’ll throw in a handstand or something.’ I like doing a handstand, if I keep my legs together, I’d probably be better at it but it doesn’t feel fun when you do it that way,” he said.

“I did that and got up and went, ‘My back hurts a little bit actually. Ah [bleep], I’ve got a little twinge in there somehow. I’ll try to carry on.”

“Who knew looking mildly perturbed for 1 min and a half could be so fun?” he wrote.

“Loving every second of working together and hoping to show you what we’ve got for many weeks to come (some smiles included…hopefully). Some amazing feedback, even more amazing support.”
