Where's Lord Sugar? The Apprentice episode 6 confusingly starts without host and ends with jaw-dropping rare firing

It's only happened three times in the show's history

The Apprentice episode 6 sends the show’s remaining candidates to Egypt. But, before its shocking ending, you probably asked one question: where is Lord Sugar?

So far, series 20 has seen its candidates sell flowers, create (dreadful) children’s books, and run around Hong Kong trying to find all sorts of obscure items.

In this week’s task, the candidates have to organise corporate away days and cook a tasty – or, at the very least, edible – meal for their clients.

It does not go well, with the losing team finishing on a loss. You may still be reeling from the firings (yes, multiple!), but we’re still wondering what happened at the start of the episode.

Why didn’t Lord Sugar appear at the start of The Apprentice episode 6?

Each episode of The Apprentice usually starts with the candidates hopping in taxis and meeting Lord Sugar, Karren Brady, and Tim Campbell. Sugar outlines the task, and then the candidates set off to organise themselves.

Episode 6 is a bit different. It starts at The Apprentice house, which isn’t that unusual; remember, Sugar introduced last week’s flower task in the garden.

This time, he doesn’t appear at all, nor do Karren or Tim. The candidates find a postcard that was dropped into the house via the letterbox, which explains where they’re going (El Gouna in Egypt), their times, and exactly what they’ll be doing.

There have been occasions where Sugar doesn’t show up in person at the start of an episode. If he’s otherwise engaged, he’ll sometimes phone in, and he’s spoken to past candidates via holograms and other one-off animations.

However, it’s rare for neither Sugar nor his aides to make an appearance. We don’t even see Tim and Karren until the candidates are in Egypt.

Who gets fired in The Apprentice episode 6?

Three candidates get the sack in The Apprentice episode 6: Andrea Cooper, Megan Ruiter, and Carrington Saunders.

That’s right, we got another triple firing! That means instead of embracing the surviving contestant(s), the remaining candidates got a brutal call from Sugar.

“I know you’re expecting to see who’s coming back to the house. Well, no one is coming back to the house.”

Double firings have become more common in The Apprentice, but Sugar rarely dismisses three candidates in a single episode.

Excluding the semi-final interviews, it’s only happened twice before. The first triple firing was in series 10 in 2014, when Sugar fired Steven Ugoalah, Sarah Dales, and Ella-Jade Bitton.

The second boardroom massacre came in 2017, when Sugar sacked Anisa Topan, Andrew Brady and Charles Burns.

This marks the third triple firing, and it comes after fans on Reddit asked for it to happen again. “I miss triple firings, bring them back!” one user wrote.

“Can’t stand what it’s like now with Lord Sugar’s recycled indecisiveness lines, I didn’t even finish watching this series it was so bad,” another commented in a past thread.

“We need more triple firings,” a third added.
