The Apprentice has made its big return tonight – but what has happened to Tom Allen and his spin-off show, You’re Fired.

Lord Alan Sugar is back in the boardroom with 20 brand new candidates hoping to impress him.

In his 20th year of the show, he is joined by his faithful aides, Baroness Karren Brady and Tim Campbell MBE, and has kicked off the series in style.

Lord Sugar has sent all the candidates off to Hong Kong for their first task.

Some will impress, some will make huge mistakes – and it will be all discussed in tonight’s Apprentice spin-off show.

But hold up, what has happened to You’re Fired? And where has Tom Allen gone?

Here’s everything we know…

The Apprentice: What happened to You’re Fired?

The BBC has decided to axe its Apprentice companion show, You’re Fired, for the 2026 series.

The spin-off has been running  since 2006, having previously started life on BBC Three. It later moved to BBC Two.

You’re Fired gave Apprentice fans all the extra gossip. The latest fired candidate would head into the studio for an interview, along with a new guest panel each week.

A highlight of the show was when the audience was asked whether they thought Lord Sugar had made the right decision each week. Fans would hold up a red ‘You’re Fired’ board or a green ‘You’re Hired’ one.

Lord Sugar would head into the You’re Fired studio after each final for a chat alongside his winner, too.

Adrian Chiles was You’re Fired’s first host, followed by Dara Ó Briain. Comedian Jack Dee took over the reins, followed by Rhod Gilbert.

You’re Fired’s most recent presenter was Tom Allen. But sadly, the show is no more.

The BBC confirmed You’re Fired earlier this month.

Where is Tom Allen?

Tom confirmed his exit from The Apprentice: You’re Fired on Instagram two weeks ago.

In a heartfelt post, he wrote: “I have decided, after six years, to say goodbye to The Apprentice: You’re Fired.

“I have had so much fun working with the most incredible creative people to make it all happen. (I was also getting concerned Lord Sugar might realise I know nothing about business – as above video demonstrates).”

Tom went on to thank Lord Sugar, Karren and Tim for their “support and encouragement at every step”. He also thanked all the candidates and guests that have joined him over the years.

“Exciting things are coming up for the show, and as for me, I shall be embarking on new voyages very soon…,’ he concluded.

Tom has since confirmed he will be starring in the musical Titanique in London’s West End for a six-week run this spring.

The Apprentice: Unfinished Business

You’re Fired has been replaced by a brand new spin-off show called The Apprentice: Unfinished Business. And to be honest, it sounds very much like You’re Fired!

But in a new change, Angela Scanlon has been announced as the host.

Confirming the new BBC Two programme, a spokesperson said: “The Apprentice: Unfinished Business will see the first interviews with fired candidates each week.

“Together with the fired candidate, Angela and her panel will dissect all the drama from that week’s task, providing fans with in-depth analysis and behind the scenes intel.”

Sounds very familiar, right?

Angela Scanlon on Unfinished Business

TV presenter Angela is a great fit for the job of Unfinished Business’ presenter, as she has already experienced life as an Apprentice candidate.

Angela starred in the 2025 Christmas celebrity special of the BBC show alongside 11 other famous faces.

She says: “I’m really excited to get stuck in, especially after being part of the Christmas special for Children in Need.

“I understand what it’s like to actually be there, sitting in that boardroom in front of Lord Sugar, so I think I’ll be able to ask questions more from a position of understanding about that whole process.

“I’m quite unfiltered and definitely speak before I think so I will also be potentially asking questions that haven’t been
asked before or maybe haven’t been answered before!”

Angela also revealed she is most keen to find out what goes on in the candidates’ house once the cameras stop rolling.

Us too, so let’s hope she delivers!
