Emmerdale won’t air on ITV1 or ITVX tonight (Thursday, October 22) as the soap faces yet more scheduling changes – this time to make way for The Pride of Britain Awards 2026.
Between football, rugby and other special shows, ITV tends to shift the soap schedule around. And boy, have they been shifting A LOT lately!

What time is Emmerdale on tonight? Is it on ITVX?
Sadly, Emmerdale won’t air at 8pm on ITV1 tonight. Coronation Street has also been dropped from its usual slot at 8.30pm.
Emmerdale airs Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evening this week. We will also have an extra episode on Sunday 25th October. There will be no episode on Thursday due to The Pride of Britain Awards 2026 airing on ITV1 and ITVX from 8pm. The special event, hosted by Carol Vorderman and Ashley Banjo, celebrates the nation’s unsung heroes.
This also means streaming won’t be available on ITVX and YouTube today, where episodes are usually available every day from 7am for anyone who can’t wait until the evening.
With all the disruption, some think if ITV brought the power hour earlier, it might make more sense, as then the soaps could possibly still air whenever the sport is on!
What happens in Emmerdale tomorrow?
Thea keeps watch on Kim and, after successfully getting access to Kim’s phone, downloads some messages before setting off in search of answers. But what will she uncover?
Elsewhere, Chas gets suspicious when Liam seems to be hiding something. Is he having an affair? Or is there another explanation for his shifty behaviour?
Kammy wants to protect Belle and makes an embarrassing declaration of love to Belle, who runs off unable to cope or respond. Is this the beginning of the end for the pair?
At Home Farm, struggling Joe rebuffs Gabby’s attempts to empathise with his grief, leaving them still at odds with each other, and meanwhile, Sadie is glad to create some further tension between Caleb and Ruby.
Soap power hour is a hit
In October 2024, Emmerdale began streaming the daily episode of the soap from 7am. Despite some concerns that it meant the soap was in trouble, coupled with lots of cast exits, it has been revealed that it was actually a great move by ITV as stats revealed viewing was way up.
The soap then announced a new schedule. The soap ‘power hour’ started in January 2026 and sees Emmerdale continue to air five nights a week. New episodes also drop on ITVX every morning at 7am as usual.
However, the soap has moved to a new time slot of 8pm. The Thursday double bill was also cut to half an hour to make way for additional episodes of Coronation Street.
This ensures faster-paced, digestible episodes – a 30-minute format which has already proven popular with viewers.
However, it also seems that the changes don’t stop the disruption caused by sports.
