Jeremy Vine hasn't appeared on his show for two weeks

Jeremy Vine is missing from his own show today, with Rob Rinder standing in – and if you’re wondering where he is, he’s not on holiday.

Comedian Susan Calman stepped in to host the Channel 5 panel show on January 5. In a social media post, she thanked the team for making her feel “very welcome and supported… nothing like some live television to get the heart rate going”.

With Rinder replacing her this week, the question remains: where is Jeremy Vine? Is he off on a cycling holiday, or is there another reason for his absence?

Well, the host has already explained what he’s doing instead of hosting his daytime show – and it involves a new TV show.

Why Jeremy Vine isn’t hosting his show today (and this week)

Jeremy Vine has taken a break from his show to work on Celebrity Puzzling series 2.

The quiz show was revived on Channel 5 last year. It’s a little similar to Richard Osman’s House of Games, with celebrities competing against each other to solve brainteasers mixed with pop culture and general knowledge questions.

It was renewed for another series in December, and filming is now underway – hence Vine’s absence.

In an Instagram post, Vine wrote: “I think you’re REALLY going to enjoy #CelebrityPuzzling” and shared a video of him wearing different kinds of glasses.

A follower commented: “Are you on holiday? I keep flicking onto Vine 5 but there’s someone else presenting!”

Vine replied: “Um… have a look again at this post.”

So, there you have it: he’s hard at work putting a new crop of celebs to the test.

When will Jeremy Vine be back on his show?

It’s now unclear when Jeremy Vine will return. With Rob Rinder hosting the show, he may not be back until next week on January 26, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

Calman said she was filling in for Vine for a fortnight, and her two-week stint began on January 5. So, her final day was Friday, January 16. Rinder is likely hosting for at least a week.

When is Celebrity Puzzling back?

Celebrity Puzzling series 2 is expected to air on Channel 5 later in 2026. However, a specific air date hasn’t been announced.

However, the channel is clearly supportive of the series, as it was renewed for an enormous 50 episodes. For contest, the first series only had eight episodes.

The initial version of Celebrity Puzzling was also hosted by Lucy Worsley. It featured the general public instead of celebrities.

Federico Ruiz, VP Commissioning Editor at Channel 5, said: “Bringing back broadcasting royalty Jeremy, Carol and Sally was a total no-brainer.

“And with 50 hours of brain-scratching puzzles, as well as a long line of celebrity guests raring to go, they’ll certainly have their work cut out.”

Carol Vorderman and Sally Lindsay will both return as team captains, alongside Vine as host, in Celebrity Puzzling series 2.
