In fact, Carla’s love life has seen her become something of a seasoned bride over the years. With another big wedding on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to look back at the men she’s previously married – and how those relationships played out on the cobbles. Inside the Coronation Street marriages of Carla Connor Paul was Liam’s brother (Credit: ITV) Paul Connor Carla first arrived in Weatherfield alongside her husband, Paul Connor. But their relationship was already under strain, particularly after Paul spent money that had been set aside for Carla on his Underworld investment. Things only worsened when Leanne Battersby entered the picture. Paul recognised her as a sex worker he’d recently hired, and despite his denials, Carla became convinced he’d slept with her. That suspicion was enough for Carla to call time on the marriage and demand a divorce. The situation spiralled dramatically when Paul, in a rage, locked Leanne in the boot of his car and set off to confront his brother Liam – who was dating her at the time. Distracted during the drive, Paul crashed the car and later died from his injuries. In the aftermath, Carla inherited the majority shares in Underworld, firmly establishing herself as one of Weatherfield’s most formidable businesswomen. Their relationship moved quickly, much to Liam Connor’s disapproval – though his objections were rooted in jealousy, as the pair shared an undeniable connection. Despite this, Carla continued with Tony while Liam moved on with Maria Sutherland. By the time Carla realised her true feelings, Liam was already committed elsewhere and went on to marry Maria later that year. Carla accepted Tony’s proposal in 2008, partly in an attempt to make Liam jealous. But behind the scenes, her affair with Liam reignited. Tragedy struck during Tony’s stag-do when Liam was killed in a hit-and-run – and a devastated Carla went through with the wedding, unaware that Tony had orchestrated Liam’s death after discovering the affair.Don't miss a single story! In 2010, Tony escaped and returned to Weatherfield, taking Carla, Maria and Hayley Cropper hostage at Underworld. The ordeal ended in a fire that claimed Tony’s life, leaving Carla once again widowed under tragic circumstances. The Coronation Street marriages of Carla Connor continued Carla married Peter twice (Credit: ITV) Peter Barlow By 2013, Carla’s on-off relationship with Peter Barlow finally led them to the altar. But their marriage unravelled almost immediately, as Peter began an affair with nanny Tina McIntyre on their wedding day. Within a year, Peter and Tina were planning to leave Weatherfield together – until Tina was murdered by Rob Donovan, putting both Carla and Peter under suspicion. Although they were eventually cleared, the damage to their relationship was irreversible. Their marriage fell apart, along with the loss of their unborn child, and Peter left Weatherfield for Portsmouth. Carla also married Nick (Credit: ITV) Nick Tilsley During Peter’s absence, Carla found comfort with neighbour Nick Tilsley. Bonding over their complicated romantic histories, the pair grew close – so much so that Carla proposed, and Nick agreed. However, things quickly began to unravel. Carla discovered that Paul Connor had actually been her cousin, and the shock led her to relapse into drinking. During this time, she had a one-night stand with Robert Preston. Although Carla came clean, trust had already been shaken. Their wedding went ahead, but tensions peaked when Tracy disrupted the ceremony, fuelling Nick’s doubts. Not long after, he had the marriage annulled, and Carla left for Devon alone. Round 2 for Peter and Carla (Credit: ITV) Carla Connor’s marriages in Coronation Street – Peter Barlow… again Carla and Peter eventually found their way back to each other in 2018. Though cautious at first, they couldn’t ignore their feelings and gradually rebuilt their relationship. Peter supported Carla through a psychotic break in 2019, as she struggled with guilt over a factory roof collapse. Their bond deepened, even as they faced further challenges, including Peter’s relapse into alcoholism and Carla’s affair with his brother Adam. Despite everything, they remarried in 2021, and this time things seemed more stable. However, their relationship was tested once again when Peter killed Stephen Reid in a hit-and-run. Recognising Peter’s turmoil, Carla encouraged him to follow his dream of sailing the world, bringing their relationship to an end. The final chapter came last year when Carla received divorce papers, officially ending their marriage.
