Patrick was in the firing line as Oscar attempted to steal his big bookies win, and was knocked unconscious during the ensuing scuffle. Paramedics rush Patrick to hospital as the story continues tonight, leaving Oscar full of guilt. But this isn’t Patrick’s only major brush with death. Far from it – Patrick’s been through a real wringer since joining the soap in 2001. Minute Mart attack Oscar’s ill-advised attack isn’t the first time poor Patrick has been assaulted by an unseen figure. In 2007, Patrick was working at the Minute Mart when he was struck from behind with a wrench. Although local bad boy Sean Slater was initially accused of the crime, it had actually been young Craig Dixon who had been responsible – attacking Patrick in a disagreement over an alcohol sale. Patrick suffered a nasty fall (Credit: BBC) 2. Ladder fall A year later, Patrick injured himself by falling from a ladder at home. Kim and Denise attempted to look after Patrick while he recovered from his injuries, although this brought considerable strain upon his relationship both. After growing angry at Denise for hiring a neglectful housekeeper to look after him, Patrick got drunk and lashed out at Denise when she returned. During the subsequent argument, their altercation turned physical, and Denise fell, cutting her face. Thankfully, the pair managed to repair their relationship, which remains strong to this day. Stroke In 2014, Patrick suffered a series of mini-strokes. Ignoring the warning signs, Patrick then suffered a major stroke after learning that Denise’s partner at the time, Ian Beale, had been seeing sex worker Rainie Cross behind her back. Patrick suffered the stroke before he could tell Denise, losing his ability to speak following his collapse. Anthony returned to Walford to visit his father but was unable to care for Patrick full time; instead giving Denise money to look after him. Ian’s secret came out when Rainie told Denise what he’d been up to. Although she initially forgave him, Denise ultimately dumped Ian for good after realising that Patrick had known what Ian had done, but had been unable to say anything due to the stroke. A second stroke In 2021, Patrick suffered a second stroke during a run-in with Denise’s murderous ex-husband, Lucas Johnson. Furious after learning that Patrick had asked Phil Mitchell to beat him up, Lucas confronted Patrick. And, as the pair shared a bitter confrontation, Patrick had a second stroke. Lucas reluctantly called an ambulance, before fleeing the scene.
