Remember Suki's villain era? 5 of the worst things she ever did

Suki's nasty side resurfaced
Joel Harley

Tonight’s episode of EastEnders sees the return of former villain Suki Panesar‘s ‘nasty’ side as she lashes out at son Vinny over his decision to attend Ash’s wedding celebrations. As the jealousy over being cut out of her daughter’s life boils over, she takes out her pain and frustration on son Vinny.

During the ensuing confrontation, some harsh words are said, and Vinny lets his mum know exactly what he thinks of her parenting. During this exchange, the soap throws up a series of reminders of Suki’s past – and it’s not pretty.

Suki’s something of a changed figure these days, since freeing herself from Nish’s influence and marrying her real love, Eve. But she hasn’t always been this way… here are four of the worst things Suki ever did.

Remembering Suki Panesar’s ‘villain’ era on EastEnders:

1. Shamed Ash for being bisexual

When Ash first arrived in Walford, she did so in a state of estrangement from her mother. This was due to her having had an abortion when she was nineteen, an act she greatly disapproved of. There was also the matter of her being bisexual, which Suki was also unable to accept.

Suki later arrived on the scene hoping to reconcile with her daughter. However, it was clear that she was unable to wholeheartedly accept Ash for who she was.

Knowing what we know now, this was partly due to her own internalised homophobia and ability to confront her own sexuality. But is that any excuse for such cold treatment of one’s own daughter?

Not to mention the lies about being sick (more on that later) and cheating with her daughter’s own boyfriend (again, more on that too).

Mother and daughter ultimately settled their differences before Ash left Walford in 2023… but obviously not enough for Ash to bother telling her about the wedding.

2. Slept with Peter to get at her daughter

As Lauren recalled during a recent argument, Suki once slept hooked up with the apple of Ash’s eye. This was one of the soap’s oddest pairings, but that didn’t prevent Ash from dating Peter anyway, and they remained a couple until he let her down (typical Peter Beale) during her time of need.

As their relationship grew fractured, Ash caught Peter and Suki in bed together for a second time, and called a day on their relationship.

This second time, to Suki’s credit, was an attempt to prove to herself that she was heterosexual (following a failed pass at Honey), but it was a low blow regardless.

Remembering Suki Panesar’s ‘villain’ era on EastEnders continued:

3. Faked having cancer

With her family wanting nothing to do with her, Suki needed an ‘in’ so that they’d forgive her. And so she told her children that she had ovarian cancer, taking notes from Jean Slater – who really did have cancer, and was undergoing chemotherapy as treatment.

“I will fight this cancer head on,” Suki told her family as they settled down for dinner together.

It was Jean who exposed Suki for her lies, having realised that Suki was faking the whole thing. And, as she chased Suki to the family restaurant, the truth came out. Jean’s version of events were confirmed by son Kheerat, who called Suki’s bluff by attempting to evict the Slaters.

4. Framed her son, causing his death

Son Jags was in the wrong place at the wrong time when brother Vinny attacked Martin Fowler in an attempted robbery. During the clean-up, Jags tried to help poor Martin, accidentally getting himself covered in blood in the process.

Disapproving of Jags’ relationship with Habiba Ahmed, Suki took it upon herself to frame her son for the crime. The police arrested Jags after taking possession of the bloody clothes, and he was sentenced to four years in prison.

Sadly, poor Jags found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time a few years later, during a conflict between the Panesars and the Mitchells. After a business deal between Ben and other brother Kheerat went awry, poor Jags was caught in the middle, stabbed to death after Ben withdrew their arrangement that he’d be protected in prison.

5. Bullied Honey

After her attempted kiss with Honey, Suki felt spurned, humiliated and confused. After sleeping with Peter to prove something to herself, she then punished Honey for rejecting her – first giving her the cold shoulder, and then refusing her requests for time off.

As their one-sided feud turned physical, Suki even attacked Honey, doling out a painful slap. Suki, how could you?
