The prodigal son returns
Joel Harley

Tonight’s episode of EastEnders (Monday, July 14) saw the return of Oscar Branning to the soap, coming crashing back into the life of sister Lauren just as she and Peter had managed to get their lives back on track.

A whirlwind of chaos, Oscar wastes little time in unleashing all manner of carnage in Walford, upsetting his big sister’s already precarious life. But who plays Oscar? Is he related to screen dad Max? And where’s he been all this time, anyway?

Here’s all we know about Oscar Branning.

Who plays Oscar Branning on EastEnders?

Oscar is played by newcomer Pierre Moullier. This makes him the fourth actor to play the part, after child stars Neo and Charlee Hall (twins who shared the role), and Gabriel Miller-Williams.

When asked about joining EastEnders, the star said:  “When I found out I was joining the Brannings, it was so exciting as they are such an iconic family, and I love that there are so many skeletons in the closet.

“Oscar is so much fun to play, and the audience should be prepared for the unexpected as he’s a complex guy!”

Who are Oscar Branning’s parents?

Oscar is the son of Max Branning and then-wife Tanya. He is the brother of Lauren Branning and Abi Branning (R.I.P). He is also the half-sister of Bradley Branning (R.I.P) and Annie Carter, although he (and Max) are yet to learn of Annie’s existence.

This makes him Jack Branning’s nephew, and uncle to Lauren’s children, Louie and Jimmy. He also has a niece on late sister Abi’s side,  also named, uh, Abi Branning.

What can we say, the residents of Walford love a legacy name.

When was Oscar Branning last on EastEnders?

Oscar had been living in Exeter with Max’s estranged ex, Tanya. However, he did make a few return trips to see his dad over the years – most recently in 2017, when he paid Max a visit on Father’s Day.

Max subsequently left the soap in 2021, and there’s been no sign of him or Oscar since.

Where has Oscar Branning been?

Oscar has been living away from Albert Square with mum Tanya. However, if his sudden re-appearance is anything to go by, Oscar and Tanya are no longer on good terms. But what happened between Oscar and Tanya? And is he telling the full truth about their estrangement?

Whether his sudden return to Walford will herald the return of his parents remains to be seen… Oh, who are we kidding. We’ve all seen the news.

With Max set to rejoin his children on Albert Square later this year, a family reunion is on the cards. We’re still holding out for Tanya, too.

How old is Oscar Branning?

Oscar was born in 2007, coming into the world in the midst of his dad’s affair with daughter-in-law, Stacey. This makes him 17 years old.

By contrast, actor Pierre is 25 years old. This makes him one of several teenage actors on the soap playing far younger. Actress Aaliyah James, who plays 16-year-old Avani is 25 years old, while screen brother Juhaim Rasul Choudhury is 20.

Are Pierre Moullier and Jake Wood related?

Screen father and son bear a striking resemblance, but Pierre Moullier is not related to Jake Wood. This will come as a surprise to some fans, who have taken to social media since his casting to share their surprise at how much alike the pair look.

What else has Pierre Moullier been in?

This is Pierre’s second role to date, having previously appeared in the TV show Cast Offs in 2009 as ‘Boy in Street.’
