What happens next as 'dying' Sam targets Nigel in her latest scam

Sam spotted an opportunity

Sam Mitchell targeted vulnerable Nigel Bates in EastEnders tonight (Tuesday, December 9), spotting an opportunity to make some cash as his dementia symptoms took hold. Fearing that she’s dying of cancer, Sam wants a nest egg to leave for Ricky Jr. once she’s dead… and she’ll stop at nothing to get it.

Realising that Jack and Denise were stringing her along with an offer of £20k in exchange for her compliance, Sam found her Plan B after a conversation with Nigel.

Sam made a deal with Denise

As their confrontation continued, Jack confronted Sam over her breast cancer claims. She insisted that it was true, although she hadn’t seen a doctor yet.

Just then, Phil arrived, taking his money back, and pooh-pooing Sam’s cancer claims. With a skint Sam now stranded in Walford, Jack encouraged her to join the family for dinner that evening.

Afterwards, he found Denise in The Vic, and informed her of the family dinner plans and Sam’s lump. Denise then joined Sam in the café, where Sam (who couldn’t even afford a coffee!) reiterated her refusal to seek help about the lump.

Realising that cold, hard cash is the way to Sam’s heart, Denise promised her £20k for Ricky’s fund – but only if she were to attend a doctor’s appointment to get the lump checked out. Agreeing to Denise’s terms, Sam made the call – or at least appeared to.

Later, before heading to the family dinner, Denise broke the news to Jack about the money. She informed him that she was just stringing Sam along though, and had no intention of giving her any money.

Sam plotted to scam Nigel in EastEnders tonight

That evening, Jack and the family arrived at the Slaters, where Lily had agreed to host the family dinner herself.

After dinner, Sam began to smell something fishy. And it wasn’t just Lily’s attempt at a fish supper. Realising that she was being played, Sam returned to Phil’s place, where she begged her brother for a place to stay.

Reluctantly, Phil agreed. As the Grinch huffed off to bed, Sam shared a moment with Nigel, who once again mistook her for Clare. Reminding Sam that he was still her ‘dad,’ Nigel reminded her that he still had ‘a few quid’ squirrelled away for a rainy day.

Will Sam resort to fleecing Nigel?

Sam backtracks on her deal in EastEnders spoilers tomorrow

With Phil and Julie busy filming Nigel’s movie in The Arches, Sam begins to smell a rat. Jack and Denise are irritated when they learn that she’s skipped out on her doctor’s appointment, and the family set about tracking Sam down.

Has Sam fled with Nigel’s cash? And can the family convince Sam to seek help?

What else happened in EastEnders tonight?

As Sam continued to send shockwaves around Walford with her return, Nicola found herself navigating a precarious situation of her own. Leaving George shocked with her baby bombshell, she was also forced to contend with Harry's desperation to score.

And, in doing so, he hit his lowest ebb yet.

Meanwhile, Patrick attracted Anthony's ire, while Kat issued her daughter a warning. And as Lily worried about Jean, she continued to spiral.

Here's everything else that happened in EastEnders tonight.

Harry hit rock bottom

As George headed out to verify Nicola's pregnancy claims, he found Honey in the café, where she backed her side of the story.

Meanwhile, with Nicola out, Barney found Harry trashing the house in search of money for drugs. An upset Harry informed his brother of everything that had been going on behind their back - including Teddy's guilty plea and Nicola's pregnancy.

As an upset Barney stormed out, Harry struck gold. Literally. Finding his mum's wedding ring down the back of the sofa, he decided to pawn it for drugs.

Meanwhile, Gina found George in McClunky's, who informed her of Nicola's pregnancy news. Gina encouraged her dad to talk to Nicola, which he did.

Nicola returned home to find Harry passed out on the sofa. Barney broke the news that she'd pawned her ring - and asked her if Harry'd been telling the truth about Teddy's guilty plea and the pregnancy.

Disappointed at his mum's secrets, he left - to see Zack, no less. After unloading on her son, Nicola met with George at Harry's Barn. She was successful in convincing George to keep quiet about Okie's death.

Putting on a united front, they returned home - where they found only a note from Harry waiting.

"See you in court!" it read. Will Harry turn himself in?

Anthony turned on Patrick (again)

Anthony's behaviour was still playing on Patrick's mind. Keen to find out the truth of the restraining order, he decided to call Anthony's ex-wife himself. Anthony returned home, and was taken aback to learn his dad had spoken to Sophie.

Worried that Sophie had sounded scared over the phone, Patrick pressed his son to know what had gone on between them.

Anthony refused, leaving the room in a huff.

Lily worried about Jean

Lily informed Jean that they'd been invited to dinner at Jack and Denise's. Jean was in a state though, and was clearly only getting worse. After a pep talk from Lily, Jean deigned to join the family for dinner, although it didn't take long before she stormed off in a strop at the mention of Stacey and Zoe's names.

Kat warned Zoe about Anthony

Kat warned Zoe to stay away from Anthony. Zoe replied that she knew all about the restraining order, and had chosen to give him a wide berth for now.
