EastEnders fans frustrated by 'plot hole' in Nigel police interrogation

What's a guy gotta do to confess around here?

EastEnders fans have been fuming over an apparent ‘plot hole’ in Nigel Bates’ confession this week, after he handed himself in for police questioning. Realising that he’d been responsible for the crash which left Gina and Jasmine seriously (although your milage might vary on that one) injured, Nigel decided that he had to confess.

Shrugging off Julie’s lies and attempts at gaslighting, Nigel strode across the Square and handed himself into Jack. Normally you can count on Jack to help you cover up a crime, but in this case, he was more than willing to accompany Nigel down the station.

As Nigel arrived, he was greeted by Julie… who once again begged him to back off. Having none of it, Nigel headed inside to complete his confession – ignoring Jack’s advice that he take Julie as his appropriate adult.

The police, however, appeared to shrug off Nigel’s attempts at a confession.

EastEnders fans slam ‘plot hole’ as police ignore Nigel confession

Growing flustered during the questioning process, Nigel was unable to answer questions about how he’d been driving. On Nigel’s advice, they then questioned Julie – who continued to lie, suggesting that Nigel had gotten confused and convinced himself he’d been driving.

Case closed, then. But, wait, what about the very literal evidence?

“Julie says Nigel wasn’t at the accident but there’s her blood on his shoes!” exclaimed one viewer.

“The police listen to everyone regardless of mental health. Nigel said he had shoes covered in blood. Police wouldn’t roll their eyes to that,” another pointed out.

“They’re not very bright at Walford police station,” wrote a third.

Should the police have taken Nigel’s confession more seriously?

Nigel and Julie faced the music

Thankfully, Nigel wouldn’t be so easily dissuaded. Returning home, he shared a heart-to-heart with Julie, who revealed how robbed she’d felt of time with her husband. And with Nigel potentially facing jail time for what he’d done, she feared that she was about to lose even more time than that.

However, explaining how important it was that he hold onto his morals and do the right thing, Nigel managed to convince Julie to come clean. Hand-in-hand, they headed back to the station, ready to face the music as one.

But what will become of Julie and Nigel? And how will the police react to Julie’s concealment of a crime?
