It was revealed this week that actor Jamie Borthwick has been axed from EastEnders after 19 years on the soap – with his final scene having already aired. The star, who has played Jay Brown since 2006, was recently suspended after being caught using a slur against disabled people behind the scenes at a Strictly Live event.

He was expected to resume filming after three months’ suspension, although this no longer seems to be the case.

The media reported that Jamie had since been ‘axed’ from the soap. A spokesperson told The Sun: “We can confirm that Jamie Borthwick will not be returning to EastEnders. We do not comment on individual matters.”

With EastEnders typically filming months in advance, this means that his final scenes have already aired.

Jamie Borthwick’s final EastEnders scene revealed

In scenes airing Tuesday, August 19, Nicola Mitchell looked on as Jay shared a moment with daughter Lexi. Stopping outside the café , Jay took a moment to help Lexi tie her shoelaces.

As the camera zoomed in on Jay’s face, Nicola stood in the background looking upset. This was due to Nicola’s turmoil over her own father, who had died on that day several years ago.

Unbeknownst to audiences at the time, these scenes likely mark the last we’ll see of Jay Brown on EastEnders. With Jamie no longer returning to the soap, this means that Jay’s ultimate exit will likely be an off-screen one.

Jamie Borthwick Strictly Scandal explained

In a clip originally obtained by The Sun on Sunday, the actor appeared to describe the people of Blackpool as ‘absolute m*****s.’

In his original statement regarding the incident, Jamie said: “I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool week on Strictly.”

He continued: “It is no excuse, but I did not fully understand the derogatory term I used and its meaning. That is on me completely. Now I am aware, I am deeply embarrassed to have used the term and directed it in the way I did.”

A spokesperson for the BBC later told the tabloid: “Whilst we do not comment on any individual matter, each case is always considered on its own facts. We are very clear on our expectations that inappropriate behaviour and language will not be tolerated.”

The media later reported that he had been reinstated following three months’ suspension, although this no longer seems to be the case.
