The 7 most chaotic moments from this week's EastEnders

What a week!
Joel Harley

EastEnders this week delivered the most drama-packed sequence of episodes since Ben Wadey took over as Executive Producer. From the eagerly-awaited return of Max Branning to the reunion of Kat and Zoe Slater, it had everything fans could possibly have hoped for – including a gun fight, shocking baby drama and a wedding!

Between the game-changing bombshells and smaller, more emotional character moments (a kitchen table conversation between Zoe and Kat was probably the most powerful scene of the week), it made for the very definition of rollercoaster television.

Which isn’t to say that it was all seriousness and misery, either. No, this week’s EastEnders was one of the most chaotic we’ve had in a while, packing in good humour, rum-toasted camp, and even some accidental (?) homoeroticism too.

Join us as we look back at the seven most chaotic moments from EastEnders this week.

1. Max turned on the charm

This week’s EastEnders revealed the surprising romance of Max Branning and Zoe Slater, following their chance meeting at an unsettlingly empty London bar. Sensing a Slater in the vicinity, ladies man Max immediately sidled over and got to smooth-talking.

And what did legendary lothario Max Branning have in the cylinder to chat up his next Slater? “You remind me of Stacey,” he told Zoe, comparing her to the cousin he had also bedded.

Still, it worked, and Zoe and Max were in bed by the very next scene.

2. Jack and Ravi wrestled it out in EastEnders this week

The back half of this week’s events were caused by a shocking incident which sent the Albert Square into meltdown. We’re talking, of course, of the great British macho-off between Jack and Ravi, whose bizarre behaviour resulted in poor Zoe Slater copping a bullet to the gut.

Clearly, both men are still bitter about the whole Denise thing, because how else to explain Jack and Ravi’s actions? Firstly, there’s Ravi, who after flashing a gun to a literal police officer, then decided to try and murder him during the resultant scuffle. A fight which was caused by Jack neither arresting Ravi nor calling for backup after seeing he had a gun.

With everyone else partying away at Patrick and Yolande’s wedding, Jack and Ravi decided to wrestle it out, accidentally shooting Zoe as they fought.

Still, this scored us a few scenes of a disheveled-looking Ravi, who shared more chemistry with Jack then than he did during his entire affair with Denise.

That, and Jack giving the line of the week by telling the terrified punters at The Vic to ‘hold fire’ on panicking. Hold fire, geddit, like Jack and Ravi should have.

3. First aid for by dummies

In the aftermath of the gunshot, Kat rushed Zoe into Walford East, where they both took cover. Seems like a sensible place to wait for an ambulance, right?

Alfie didn’t think so, subsequently dragging Zoe across the Square back to The Vic, where he promptly dumped her on the floor to bleed out. As he and the Slaters flew into a tizz, Kat decided to staunch the bleeding with dirty rags used to clean the floor, while a shocked Anthony discovered The Vic’s First Aid kit full of Bert and Ernie’s sweet wrappers.

It’s not often we agree with Jack, but maybe moving Zoe wasn’t the best course of action.

4. MacGyver Beale

Thankfully, paramedics arrived before they could follow-through on Ian Beale‘s suggestion of gluing the wound shut, just like he’d seen on TV. Even more surprising, Anthony would have followed through on the idea, too, if the ambulance hadn’t gotten there in time.

With neighbours (and an ex-fiancée) like that, it’s no wonder Zoe was so reluctant to come home in the first place.

5. The Beales raised the alarm in EastEnders this week

News of the gunshot first spread as Jean sidled up to Anthony and informed him that there’d been news of a gunshot all over the ‘neighbourhood chat.’ Leave it to Ian Beale, then, who sent the whole pub into a panic by shouting to all and sundry about there being ‘a nutter on the loose.’

Real subtle, Ian.

Son Peter then finished what his dad had started by running in, telling everyone that ‘someone’s shooting on the Square.’ Having terrified everyone, Peter and Ian then bolted the doors and finished turning Patrick and Yolande’s wedding party into something out of Assault on Precinct 13.

6. Nicola toasted the happy couple

At least Nicola Mitchell wasn’t worried about the carnage unfolding outisde. Amid the outpouring of bonkers behaviour, sozzled Nicola managed to ease tensions with a drink for the happy couple. “Just live every day as if it’s your last,” she told Patrick as she poured him another tipple.

Still, Patrick seemed remarkably unbothered for a man who’d been suffering panic attacks at the mere thought of violence only a few days ago. Job done, Nicola.

7. Jean was petty in EastEnders this week

Lest Jean waste an opportunity to lambast her ex, she found time to badmouth Harvey as she sat with Stacey in the hospital. “That’s men for you, isn’t it? Always saying one thing and meaning something entirely different,” she said of Zoe’s mystery texter. “Naming no names – Harvey.”

Honestly? The man made the right call by ending things when he did.
