Jonny Foster arrives in Classic Emmerdale this week catching the eye of Katie Sugden, Grayson Sinclair and Paul Lambert!

As a character he made history when Jonny and Paul became the first single-sex couple on a primetime soap to become civil partners.

And as an actor, Australian Richard Grieve was already familiar to soap fans having starred in Neighbours  AND Home and Away.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Jonny Foster arrives in Emmerdale

Jonny came to Emmerdale as a business associate of Grayson Sinclair. Convinced her husband fancied Jonny, Gray’s wife, Perdy, invited him to dinner with Katie Sugden and Paul Lambert.

Katie, who was newly single, thought her luck was in! But it was Paul who Jonny was attracted to. The pair hit it off and began dating. A fwe months later, Jonny moved into Victoria Cottage with Paul and his dad Rodney Blackstock and friend Emily Kirk.

As the problems in Grayson and Perdy’s marriage got worse – mostly thanks to Rosemary meddling – Paul began spending more time with Gray. They grew closer and just as Jonny was contemplating proposing to Paul, his future fiancé slept with Grayson.

Wedding bells for Paul and Jonny!

Fortunately for the pair, Paul fessed up and assured Grayson that it had been a one-off mistake. He accepted Jonny’s proposal and the pair began making wedding plans.

They tied the knot not once, but twice!

First the couple said their vows in a private ceremony at Hotten Register Office. Then later that same day – after feeling bad that their families and friends hadn’t been with them – they did it all over again at Home Farm. They didn’t tell anyone that they were already married!

Falling apart

Meanwhile, Katie Sugden was pregnant with a surrogate baby for Grayson and Perdy. She’d agreed to be a surrogate when Grayson and Perdita were together but by this time they had split and Perdy was with Matthew King.

Katie initially sided with Grayson, but when she found out about his affair with Paul, she changed her mind. She ended up giving birth in Matthew’s car and signing over her parental rights to Perdy.

Jonny was suspicious about how close Paul and Gray were and thought Paul had warned Grayson about Katie’s plans. Paul denied it but when Jonny saw him and Grayson hug, he realised he couldn’t trust his husband and left Emmerdale.

But that wasn’t the end!

Jonny went back to Australia, but Paul was sad and his friends realised he still loved his former husband. They all worked hard to get him to admit it and he made plans to head Down Under to reconcile with Jonny. But Val didn’t want her son to go, so she lied that Rodney had a heart condition to get him to stay.

When Paul found out it wasn’t true, he left Emmerdale for Australia.
