While, festive fun is thin on the ground for the Sugdens as Jack and Diane call it quits. Lily gets in too deep when Eli stumbles on her gardening project, and Perdy finds out the truth about Grayson setting up Matthew – only for them to receive the shocking news that Rosemary really is dead! These episodes originally aired in December, 2007. Read on to find out more in our Classic Emmerdale preview. Eric gets romantic! Eric is flattered when Rosalind asks him to meet. He tells Val that he is meeting a supplier. When he meets Rosalind he tries to tell her that he is already in a relationship but she doesn’t seem to care and suggests they could have a little fun anyway. Eric is tempted but he realises that he loves Val. Phew! He turns down Rosalind’s offer, returns to the village and proposes to Val! article continues below Read all the latest spoilers Ever the romantic, Eric takes Val to choose an engagement ring. He asks Rodney to swap the price tags on the cheapest and the most expensive, hoping he won’t have to cough up too much money! But his efforts backfire when Val decides she likes the expensive ring that has the cheap price tag! Scarlett gets a job After realising she’s going to have to pay for the damage caused at her party, Scarlett decides to get a job. She asks Debbie if there’s any work going at the garage and Debbie agrees to help. But Carrie and Jimmy aren’t keen when they realise that means Scarlett will be working with Daz. When Scarlett turns up dressed to the nines and obviously hoping to impress Daz, Debbie thinks it’s hilarious. Scarlett starts by washing cars! But soon it becomes obvious that there is not enough work to keep Scarlett busy at the garage. Seeing an opportunity, Debbie offers to pay her for doing nothing. Sneakily she tells Scarlett she can pay her back when she gets her inheritance, obviously hoping to come out better off for the deal. Scarlett gets her wages and heads off Christmas shopping with Daz. Carrie is annoyed about her daughter spending time with Daz. But Scarlett is so fed up with Carrie’s interference that she hints that she’s slept with him just to annoy her mum! But an over-protective Jimmy hears about it. He punches poor Daz, who is bewildered by the whole thing, and Scarlett is devastated when Daz says he doesn’t want to see her again. Scarlett pours her heart out to Debbie, who promises to have a word with Daz about his behaviour. Later on, she corners Daz and threatens to sack him if he doesn’t start being nice to Scarlett. Eli wants to make a deal with Lily (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock) Lily’s in trouble and Eli wants in! Eli’s latest scam is nicking Christmas trees from Home Farm to sell. He ropes in Sam, but when they’re out in the night, they spot a bright light in the polytunnels and see Lily emerging. What’s she up to? Eli wants to find out what Lily is growing in the polytunnel. When Lily finds him sneaking around she realises she’s been busted. She admit that she’s been growing cannabis plants to help with her arthritis. Eli offers to buy some cannabis for her while she waits for her plants to mature, but he demands that she give him half of her plants in exchange for his silence. Eli drops off a package for Lily, telling Edna it had been deliverered to the wrong address. Edna’s suspicious when Lily tells her it is a ‘herbal remedy’. Edna later discovers that Eli was lying about the parcel and Lily becomes uncomfortable about getting involved with Eli, convinced he will get her into trouble. Christmas party wars! Viv decides to take on The Woolpack and hold her own Christmas party at the cafe. Marlon’s disappointed when Donna says she’s agreed to go to both Christmas parties, as he was hoping they could spend time together. But he perks up when Ross says he can get Donna out of a Christmas Day shift in return for 350 mince pies from Marlon for the Policeman’s Ball. As the parties kick off, Viv is upset that her event is not as successful as the pub’s – mostly because she doesn’t have a licence to sell alcohol! Angry Viv turns up at the pub with her bucket and guilt trips everyone into making a donation for her charity instead. Belle’s panto hits a snag when lots of the villagers come down with food poisoning (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock) Pantomime drama! The following day, the villagers are all stricken with food poisoning after the Christmas parties. Viv and Marlon realise they bought their meat from the same source – the Dingles! But the sickness means half of Belle’s cast aren’t able to perform in the pantomime. She makes a desperate attempt to get some last-minute replacements on board, signing up Jasmine, Eric and Viv. Things are tricky though as Jasmine gets fed up with Viv making changes to the script. Perdy visits Matthew in prison (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock) Matthew’s getting desperate! Jimmy and Carl go to visit Matthew in prison, but he’s in a bad way. He demands to see Perdy, and rants about being set up by Grayson. Later, Perdy is shocked when she finds a malicious viral email against Matthew on Gray’s computer, which has been copied to all of the Kings’ clients. When she asks Gray about it, his shifty behaviour makes her wonder whether he could have set up Matthew. Perdy sneaks off to visit Matthew in prison but he’s upset that she doubts his innocence. Matthew insists that the evidence against him could easily have been planted by somone. He makes it clear that he believes Gray is responsible. Perdy listens but insists she has to leave, Matthew pleading with her not to give up on him as she heads off. She later admits to Carl that Gray was responsible for the viral email. She begins to search for evidence to confirm her suspicions and she’s horrified to find Rosemary’s cardigan and a letter that proves she’s alive and kicking in Gray’s briefcase! Panicking that Perdy’s on to him, Gray disappears with the case, intending to burn the contents. But he’s shocked when he discovers it’s empty. Katie’s furious With everything out in the open, Perdy leaves Gray for Matthew. When Katie finds out, she is furious and she demands to know where that leaves her as she thought she was carrying a baby for a committed couple. She confronts Perdy and threatens to have an abortion now that everything has changed. Terrified of losing another baby, Perdy tells Gray to sort things out with Katie, or she’ll tell the police about his attempts to set up Matthew. Meanwhile, Jimmy and Carl are surprised when Matthew tells them that he’s asked Perdy to move in with him. Worried things are moving too fast, they ask Matthew if he’s sure, but he refuses to back down and insists that he will stand by Perdy and her unborn baby. Later, Gray begs Katie to keep the baby but she insists she was carrying the child for him and Perdy, not Perdy and Matthew. And Rosemary really is dead! But things change when Grayson gets the terrible news that Rosemary has taken her own life in America. Katie comforts a distraught Grayson and when he begs her to keep the baby, she agrees. Meanwhile, Perdy is stunned when she learns about Rosemary’s death, but she is honest when she admits that she’s happy that her ruthless mother-in-law will no longer be around. Matthew is shocked by Perdy’s harsh words. Are Jack and Diane over for good? At the Woolpack, Diane’s full of Christmas spirit but the rest of the Sugdens are awkward. But eventually the champagne flows and things start to improve. And then there’s a knock on the door… After Christmas, with Jack and Diane on the rocks, Victoria’s delighted. But Val defends Diane when Victoria crows over her sister being dumped. She confronts Jack about what’s happened, and begs him to give Diane another chance. Soon, Val realises that Jack is as devastated as Diane about their break-up. But Diane is dealt another blow when Jack considers an offer on the cottage from the Dolands.
