What happened in Emmerdale tonight (Tuesday): Steph made plastic surgery plans and John played the hero… again
Steph lied to her parents
A tormented Steph Miligan finalised plans to have plastic surgery in Emmerdale tonight (Tuesday, April 29), lying to her parents as she booked an appointment for tomorrow. But, with her self-loathing only growing, it became clear that she won’t be able to stop at just the nose.
Elsewhere, John talked Liam down from a panic attack, and gave Cain food for thought after seeing him call Nate again. Meanwhile, Sarah’s determination to pursue IVF grew, and Vanessa began to make amends with Mary.
Here’s everything that happened on Emmerdale tonight.

Steph booked an appointment in Emmerdale tonight
Feeling good about his victory over Kim and Joe, Caleb paid a visit to Frank’s grave, with Ruby at his side. Having clawed back just a small part of what he felt was his birthright, he was optimistic – but concerns remained for Steph’s well-being.
At home, Steph was still feeling self-conscious, and examined her eyes and nose in the mirror as her parents arrived. They were in the mood for celebrating ahead of Caleb’s birthday tomorrow, and Ruby shared the news of her impending name change.
Caleb felt like watching a film with his family, but Steph wasn’t in the mood, and beat a hasty retreat in the face of her parents’ attempts to bond.
After she’d gone, Caleb searched for answers, despairing at Steph’s continued self-isolation. Ruby advised him to give her space, telling him that she needed the one thing she couldn’t have – therapy.
Meanwhile, Steph had arrived at her meeting… with a cosmetic surgeon. She was finalising plans for her nosejob, ridding herself of her inheritance from Anthony. But first, there was the matter of a psychological evaluation to get through.
Having struggled with her surgeon’s line of questioning, Steph needed to open up – so she lied about having been bullied at boarding school, specifically for her nose. Seeing a perfectly unremarkable nose, the surgeon was left confused by why she felt so self-conscious.
However, satisfied by her excuses, he booked her in for an appointment. Back home, Steph was in a good mood, informing her parents that she was going on an impromptu holiday… tomorrow.
As she packed ahead of her ‘holiday,’ Steph received a text confirming her appointment tomorrow – and then a call from another surgery, about a consultation for a brow lift.

John played the hero
Victoria noticed on John’s phone that he’d got an e-mail from the hospital. Opening it up, he learned that he hadn’t been successful in his interview. But that’s not what he told Victoria – and immediately lied about getting the job.
At work, John took out his frustrations at an angry Old Man Finnegan over the phone. Claudette had arrived to take over at reception – just in time, as a grumpy John handed in his notice to Liam.
The pair were then distracted by butterfingers Claudette, who marked her new position by dropping a plant. Amid the chaos of her bickering with John, Liam began struggling to breathe.
At his desk, Liam was suffering a panic attack. And it’s little wonder, the amount of head trauma the poor man’s been put through lately.
As John talked him down, he determined that Liam might be suffering from PTSD due to his recent attack, and offered to take his next patient while the doctor recovered.
Impressed by John’s latest act of heroism, Liam sat John down for a chat in the cafe. He’d hired Claudette for good, so no more reception desk for John, who he wanted to stay. John agreed… for now.
He was distracted by the sudden arrival of Cain, leaving another message to Nate. Cain was growing tired of his son’s behaviour and let him know as much. But is Cain about to become a problem for John?
Afterwards, John informed Victoria of his decision to stay at the surgery, ‘turning down’ the job he’d never gotten in the first place. As she left, he sidled up to Cain with talk of a dodgy clutch… prodding for information about Nate.
Explaining how he’d grown worried after his conversation with Tracy, John shared the story of an old friend he’d once had, who’d also cut his whole family and friends out of his life.
Food for thought for Cain, but is John just digging himself an even deeper hole?

Sarah was set on IVF
In the cafe, Manpreet was reading a saucy novel when she was approached by Sarah. The fact she was on holiday didn’t dissuade Sarah from seeking medical advice.
She’d been doing her research, and found plenty of people seemingly in the same boat as her. Manpreet warned her to get her expectations in check, especially given the prohibitive price of IVF, and her pre-existing health condition.
Afterwards, Sarah shared the details of her conversation with Vanessa. She was determined to go ahead with her IVF journey in spite of Manpreet’s doubts. Vanessa offered to be there to support her – but was sworn to secrecy, and promised not to tell Charity.

Vanessa made up with Mary on Emmerdale tonight
Reminiscing about that time Rhona held Vanessa’s hair back as she threw up, the village vets’ friendship seemed to be back on track. Good timing too, as Rhona had some news – she was arranging a 75th birthday party for her mum, and wanted Vanessa to attend.
Too soon? Vanessa thought so, and told Rhona as much. Later, in the Woolpack, Rhona informed Mary that she’d been unsuccessful in getting Vanessa on side.
Spurred on by a conversation with Sarah, Vanessa decided to let bygones be bygones, and told them both that she’d be there for the party.
