What happened on Emmerdale Monday: John slipped up and Sarah wants a baby
Many happy returns to Nate
It was Nate’s birthday in Emmerdale on Monday, April 28 and with various voices in the village wondering where he was, John Sugden slipped up – accidentally calling Cain from the dead man’s phone.
No harm done (yet), but John’s beginning to struggle with the pressure, what with Aaron also wanting to ‘meet’ Aidan and Tracy visibly struggling with losing Nate. Can John keep his cool?
Elsewhere, Liam and Chas were left frustrated by the lack of progress, and Sarah came to a massive decision about her future. And, as Ruby and Caleb celebrated a rare win, Steph’s struggles continued.
Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale.

Happy birthday Nate
It was Nate’s birthday, and Frankie had made her dad a card. Disappointed that he still hadn’t been in touch, Tracy palmed it off on Cain, as she couldn’t bear to get rid himself.
Over at The Woolpack, Chas ranted about Cain’s lack of interest in Liam’s latest injury. His many head traumas hadn’t gone unnoticed by Chas, commenting that he’d had more knocks to the head than an Agatha Christie murder victim.
Aaron offered to send John over to check Liam over – dropping his fiancée in it as he did, by revealing he’d pursued another job in the hospital… and the job interview was today!
Meanwhile, with Nate the talk of the town, a moody Cain attempted to call his son again. No luck, so he left another message on Nate’s phone, wishing him a happy birthday.
Later, PC Swirling paid Liam and Chas a visit. He’d been in touch with Ella, and and confirmed that she had a cast-iron alibi for Liam’s attack. Chas still wasn’t convinced though, and wondered whether she might have sent someone else to do her dirty work.
Will people please leave that poor girl alone?

Aaron met Aidan and John slipped up on Emmerdale
At the shop, John brought himself a card congratulating himself on the new job. As he explained how it was his little ritual to ensure things go his way, Tracy grumbled about someone else who should have gotten a card today – Nate.
His face almost gave the game away when she dropped a comment about Nate not opening his card. “Why do you say that?” he asked, alarmed.
A false alarm, of course – she just hadn’t sent the card. But all this talk of Nate was getting to John, and he apologised… just not for the thing Tracy thought he was apologising for.
Later, John emerged from his job interview, feeling positive. Finding Aaron waiting for him outside, he decided to take them for some Thai food to celebrate. Aaron, however, had something else on his mind. Aware that Aidan was at the hospital, he wanted to pay John’s ex a visit.
Reluctantly, John agreed. He and Aaron slipped into the room where Aidan lay comatose. Making out it had been a while since his last visit, he ‘introduced’ Aaron to Aidan… who shuffled nervously in the doorway.
Afterwards, in the back of his van, John opened his card from Tracy. Feeling guilty, he fetched Nate’s phone and began to go through his messages. It was while he was listening to Cain’s voicemail that he accidentally hit call, ringing Cain back.
He hung up before Cain could realise that it wasn’t Nate on the other end of the line, but a rookie error all the same. Frustrated and angry at himself, John tore up the card and resumed stewing.
Ruby and Caleb sealed the deal
At Home Farm, Kim and Caleb finalised their deal, with the Miligans’ signing off on the paperwork making (a portion of) Kim’s land their own.
Afterwards, Caleb and Ruby looked over their fresh plot of land as they shared a hip flask full of booze. He noticed that she’d signed the paperwork Ruby Miligan, omitting her father’s surname. The ‘Fox’ was dead, and she planned on changing her name for good, soon enough.
“Here’s to better times ahead,” he cheers-ed, hopefully not tempting fate.

Sarah wants a baby
Jacob and Kammy put their truce to work, exchanging friendly words in the street. And, as bygones continued to be bygones, Jacob agreed to meet his former rival for a drink after work.
These were friendlier words than Sarah got, greeted by the cold shoulder from Kammy at work. In the garage, everyone’s bad mood continued as Cain snapped at Kammy for improper bolt-twisting technique. Taking umbrage at Cain’s order that Sarah help him out, he stormed off.
Cain sent Sarah away in pursuit, telling her to fix things before someone would have to be sacked. Meanwhile, Kammy caught up with Jacob in the cafe, where he vented his frustration about Sarah and work.
Sarah followed, and was taken aback to see how friendly the boys were. With Kammy and Jacob heading off to pursue their bromance, she then ran into Vanessa, who was on hand to offer words of advice.
But it wasn’t advice – or a boy – Sarah was after. “I want a baby,” she told the shocked vet. Turns out, the real issue wasn’t Jacob or Kammy, she just wants a baby – and will be pursuing IVF to get it.
Steph got drunk on Emmerdale
In the cafe, Ross and Steph shared breakfast – and he took great pleasure in winding up Nicola, who was run off her feet with Brenda away.
Getting hot under the collar from all that talk of baked beans and meat sweats, Steph invited him back to her place for a ‘lie down,’ where she would be ready to re-ignite the physical side of their relationship.
Back at home, the pair snuggled up on the sofa. However, he was quick to notice that she reeked of vodka – and as he’d been the one buying the drinks, realised that she’d been necking the booze in secret.
With Steph clearly trashed and not wanting to take advantage, he beat a hasty retreat – just as her demeanor changed and she snapped at him to clear off.
Later, Caleb and Ruby returned home to find Steph passed out on the sofa. Ruby noticed that her daughter had been crying and, as Steph’s phone rang ominously, it seems as though Caleb’s good wishes wouldn’t be coming to pass anytime soon.
