Anya died, while Kev went off the rails in spectacular fashion and now he has a gun. It's been a shocking week in Emmerdale!

We can't believe how dark Emmerdale is at the moment

Our Emmerdale review this week is full of gloom, because it’s getting really, really dark, isn’t it?

From April being arrested, to Anya’s shocking death, and Kev going off the rails, things were very bleak this week.

Though there were some bright spots too – Lewis and Vinny’s blossoming friendship – or could it be more? Plus Kev’s karaoke and Liam becoming an accidental getaway driver.

Here’s what we thought of the action in this week’s Emmerdale review

Emmerdale review: April’s antics

The week started with April being arrested in Newcastle and phoning Bob for support. She needed an appropriate adult, she told him, and she didn’t know who else to call.

Hmm, that must have been a real head-scratcher for April. Who could she call? Well, just off the top of our heads, could we suggest, her loving and blindly supportive dad, Marlon? Her devoted stepmum, Rhona. Her caring step-gran Mary. Rhona’s bestie, Vanessa. Or there’s Ross, who is, admittedly, not always the best choice for legal help, but who is beginning to look like an angel next to teen tearaway April… Need we go on?

Anyway, Bob dropped everything, ran to help April, then did exactly what she asked and didn’t tell her parents in case they stopped speaking to her. Not sure why Bob would think Marlon and Rhona would treat April that way but he did.

Meanwhile, Marlon was – as always – pathetically delighted to see his daughter. He was a bit worried about her missing Ivy’s party, but not – apparently – remotely concerned about her missing school.

Kev created chaos

Kev was going off the rails in spectacular fashion in this week’s Emmerdale. Spectacular. But it was really very entertaining to watch. Him singing karaoke has gone down in Emmerdale history.

And that’s before we even get to him plunging head first back into a life of crime with an exuberant armed robbery.

Kev roped Liam in as an accidental getaway driver. Oblivious to what was going on, Liam sat in the car arranging a murder-mystery night for Chas (poor Chas, eh?). He didn’t even notice Kev disguising himself with a beanie hat and a scarf over his face. Obviously, once Liam twigged what was happening, he was horrified. Which was very funny!

But now Kev’s got a gun, and a vendetta against Aaron and we can’t help thinking this is not going to end well.

Lewis and Kev

One of the biggest revelations in a week of drama was first Nicola and Liam, then Kev himself, realising that Lewis is his son.

It was slightly odd that Lewis knew so much about his birth mum – even down to her gettng pregnant after a drunken hook-up with his dad. Plus he knew his dad had gone to prison and why.

But while he knew Emma’s name, he didn’t know Kev’s.

Anyway, that aside, we’re quite pleased that the secret is – sort of – out. Where will it all go from here?

Lewis bringing love

While we’re on the subject of Lewis, he was properly adorable this week. We love his friendship with Nicola and how supportive she is. And are we imagining a little spark between him and Vinny?

Emmerdale review: Anya actually died

We couldn’t quite believe it, but Anya was sick and she died. And a storyline that was already really dark, got even darker.

Meanwhile, Kim Tate popped in to inspect Celia’s farm. And though Celia managed to get rid of her, there was the tiniest, smallest glimmer of hope there. Perhaps Kim will decide there’s something dodgy going on and come back?

Elsewhere, pregnant Charity was on an unhinged mission to force Mack to become besties with Liam and ditch Ross.

In fact, she was so weird about the whole thing that it’s like she’s got a neon sign above her head saying “I SLEPT WITH ROSS”!
