With Caleb recovering from his ordeal – and so far unaware that Joe was responsible – Joe was keen to let the heat die down. After all, it would look mightily suspicious if he turned up limping around the village so soon after Caleb’s stabbing. After stashing his car back at Home Farm and securing an exit for the thug who stabbed Caleb, Joe made plans for his own exit. And, unsurprisingly, this involved a one-way trip to Dubai, where doctors would be waiting to aid with the rest of his recovery. From the back of his car, he pined over a picture of Dawn, before deleting her from his contacts and setting off on his trip. Seemingly definitive stuff, but is that it for Joe? Joe will continue his recovery in Dubai (Credit: ITV) Emmerdale promises Joe’s ‘comeuppance’ amid kidney controversy Last week, the soap came under fire as it faced backlash for its handling of a sensitive topic. With the charity Kidney Research UK criticising the ‘reckless’ storyline for ‘sending the wrong message’ about organ donation. However, ITV responded by promising that Joe will get his comeuppance for what he’s done. A spokesperson said: “Emmerdale covers a wide ranging scope of subjects in its storytelling. From births to deaths and everything in between, the nightly stories entertain, inform and raise awareness. “We regularly work with organisations, help groups and charities for the portrayal of many of these subjects. But sometimes our characters go rogue acting out of desperation or whilst under pressure. They added: “Joe Tate’s desperate actions are not being held up as an example and as with any soap villain he will ultimately get his comeuppance.” Joe’s return, then, seems inevitable.
