Strictly star Vicky Pattison opened up about tackling her nerves, which she has admitted to struggling with over the course of the series so far.

Strictly star Vicky Pattison on tackling her nerves

Earlier this month, Vicky opened up about how her anxiety almost meant she didn’t say yes to doing Strictly this year.

“I knew before Strictly even started, I was going to struggle with my nerves and anxiety… so much so, that I almost said no to this incredible opportunity. I almost let my fear stop me from doing something amazing,” she said on Instagram.

“But I absolutely don’t want that nasty little inner critic to dictate my life. I don’t want it to convince me that I’m not capable of doing brilliant things once in a while. So I put on my big girl pants and instead I tried to get myself in the best possible place before I started this little journey,” she then added.

Appearing on It Takes Two tonight alongside Kai Widdrington, Vicky opened up about how she’s slowly getting better at handling her nerves.

The topic was broached when Janette played in Anton Du Beke’s firm words to Vicky during last weekend’s show. “I’m done with you being nervous,” Anton told the star. “I’ve parked that. I don’t want to hear that again.”

‘This has been one of my dreams’

Smirking, Vicky reiterated her crush on Anton, saying, “First of all, I just love it when he talks like that. I just love a firm hand.”

“The nerves are slowly going away, right, week by week?” Janette Manrara asked.

Getting serious, the star then continued, saying: “Yeah. Like, honestly, I know everyone’s probably really bored with that narrative, of us being nervous…Listen, nobody more than me wishes that I was a better performer or calm person or cool under pressure, because this has been one of my dreams!”

“But you are looking cooler under pressure,” Janette then weighed in. “D’you think?” Vicky asked.

“I do think I’m making some improvements, Janette, but I’ve wanted to do Strictly for years,” she then continued.

Vicky on avoiding regrets on Strictly

Continuing, Vicky said, “I mean, I’ve talked about it being on my vision board; this is a dream come true.

“And I’d not forgive myself if I look back on this experience and didn’t enjoy it, of letting your nerves get in the way. So it’s been lovely for me to sort of feel like I’m turning a corner, almost,” she then added.

“You really are,” Janette replied.

Tomorrow night will see Vicky perform as Cheryl in Icons Week. Will she be able to top last week’s score of 29? We’ll find out in less than 24 hours!
