Celebrity Traitors star James Acaster appears to have had a very narrow escape last night after accidentally ‘giving away’ his Traitor identity.

Fans are convinced that James, 41, made a huge slip-up at breakfast that easily could have led to his banishment from the BBC show.

But luckily for him, no one noticed… apart from eagle-eyed viewers at home.

Celebrity Traitors’ James Acaster makes huge gaffe

James was recruited as a Traitor during the first murder of the series. Traitors Maya Jama and Richard E. Grant picked James while murdering Amol Rajan at the same time.

James and Maya have since thrown Richard under the bus, which helped lead to the actor’s banishment. But they were then tasked with picking another Traitor to seduce – and they chose mathematician Hannah Fry.

Hannah’s recruitment came on the same night either she or Jerry Hall were supposed to be murdered by the Traitors. The Faithful were all expecting one of them to be missing at breakfast the following morning.

The trouble is, they were last to enter the breakfast room. And when they knocked on the door, fans think James instantly gave away that neither of them had been murdered.

Moments before the knock, James said to Julie Hesmondhalgh: “This is it now. We’re down to the last two.”

Hannah and Jerry then walked through the door, as the rest of the room gasped in shock. They had only expected to see one of them.

Celebrity Traitors fans spot James’ slip-up

The Faithful in the breakfast room at Ardross Castle may not have noticed James’ possible mistake. But viewers at home certainly did.

Writing in a Traitors fan group on Facebook, one said: “Did you hear the James gaffe? When they were at breakfast and everyone was expecting either Jerry or Hannah to turn up, he said, ‘Here comes the last two’.

“Only a Traitor would know that both of them were coming through the door.”

Another fan replied: “I noticed that too, but no one picked up on it.”

And a third added: “I noticed that. I thought it was weird because only Hannah or Jerry could have been killed, everyone knew it was one of them, so him saying down to the last 2 suggested to me that he slipped up and knew both were coming in.

“I’m surprised no one had taken any notice.”

However, not everyone agreed that it was a mistake.

Someone else wrote: “He would have meant it was down to the last two, with one to return and one not.”

Another agreed: “I thought he said ‘so it’s DOWN to the last two’. Which it was. I don’t think he blundered.”

Interesting. What do you think?
