Graeme, who is from Selby in Yorkshire, spoke about his close relationship with his mother during an appearance on Channel 5’s Vanessa, hosted by Vanessa Feltz.

Although he’s often all over the country filming, he regularly checks in with her on the phone. Her poor memory was recently sparked by a chat about holidays.

“I was thinking about all the family holidays we had as a kid. It was me, my sister Andrea and my mum and dad,” Graeme said.

“I’m not going to say how old my mum is because she might be watching – and I’ll be in big, big trouble. She looks marvellous for her age.

“She doesn’t remember everything these days. But one of the things she does remember are those holidays.”

Graeme continued: “We were chatting [on the phone] just the other day. I was driving down the M5 and said to her, ‘Hey, mum, guess where I’m driving past?”

The Dogfather told his mother that he was close to Minehead in Somerset, saying: “Minehead. Remember Minehead?”

Graeme said she replied with: “Oh, Minehead yes. That was Mrs Cornwall and a little B&B”.

He then reflected: “Those memories are not just for the kids. It’s for the parents as well.”

Graeme was asked if he still goes on holiday with his mum to which he replied: “There’s come a point when the roles are reversed…”

Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly this week

Graeme made a welcomed return to Channel 5 last week with Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly. Although series 8 began earlier this year, it took a break seven episodes in.

Graeme has now picked up where he left off. This week, he meets a labradoodle called Luigi in West Wales. Luigi has a party trick, where he walks on his back legs, but Graeme is concerned.

It turns out poor Luigi has performance anxiety. But thankfully, Graeme is on hand to help!

The expert dog trainer will also meet a stubborn chihuahua called Mabel.

You can watch Graeme put his skills to good use in Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly at 8pm on Channel 5 on Sunday May 31, 2026.
