EastEnders today on iPlayer (Monday, July 27), aired a devastating twist for Ian Beale as he was sentenced to time in prison.

Ian had hoped that Chelsea would stay true to her word and save him at the last minute.

But, unfortunately, Chelsea couldn’t get to the court in time to save the day.

Chelsea wanted to help Ian in EastEnders

Today in EastEnders, Ian prepared to head to court knowing that he was facing time in prison.

He feared being put in prison with violent criminals, telling Peter that he didn’t want him to visit him and see him inside if he did end up going down.

His lawyer turned up and gave his some ‘good news’ ahead of his session in court though. He revealed that Jordon’s medical reports were submitted to the court yesterday. He was showing signs of improvement which meant that Ian’s sentencing would be capped to 12 months instead of five years.

As Ian had pleaded guilty, he’d get a third of that time off. So, he’d be looking at eight months inside. Ian and Kathy didn’t see this as ‘good news’ though.

As Jordan was now getting better though, Chelsea could be more inclined to make a new statement to the police, revealing the truth about what happened to Jordan. This could see Ian home with a suspended sentence.

Later on, Ian received a call from Chelsea after paying her a quick visit. She’d had a chat with Kim and had told her the truth about Jordan’s accident. It was her fault, and Ian was telling the truth all along.

Chelsea told Ian that she was coming to court to make a statement. He then told her which room to go to, thanking her for helping him.

Ian sentenced to 8 months in prison in EastEnders iPlayer release

In court, Ian kept looking at the door waiting for Chelsea to appear. He was on edge and stood up to tell the judge about Chelsea’s change of heart. They just needed to wait a few minutes for her to get there.

The judge wouldn’t allow for this though, telling Ian to sit down and do as he said. He wasn’t in the council now and couldn’t just take charge of the place.

Unfortunately for Ian, Chelsea had got held up with Kim on the tube and was unable to get to the court before the sentencing.

Ian was devastated as the judge ruled that he would be sentenced to eight months in prison.

Ian’s family then watched on as he was taken down to his cell. Will Chelsea still be able to have her say though? And, will Ian be able to appeal?
