It was a perfect scene between father and daughter

Gone on ITV comes to a beautifully nuanced ending, and the final scene between grieving Michael and Alana Polly was beautifully done – with thanks largely to the music used.

Whether you’ve binged it to the end on ITVX, or are watching on ITV weekly, you will eventually arrive at an poignant scene between father and daughter.

After the murder of Sarah Polly, husband Michael became prime suspect. And even his daughter started to have her suspicions about her emotionally-repressed dad’s guilt.

Although you won’t find any spoilers here – read our Gone ending explained for those – episode 6 features a very moving scene between the remaining Polly family. And it all centres around a piece of classical music…

What is the music in Gone episode 6 on ITV?

During a heartbreaking scene between Michael Polly and his daughter Alana, the pair tried to move on after the horrors of their recent past.

In their lounge, Michael played a CD of classical music to his daughter. It was the same piece of music that he and future-wife Sarah had seen performed in their youth. As he reminisced about the evening, he revealed it was the night they realised they had a future together as a couple. They both knew their “lives were about to change”.

He said: “Not long after your mum and I met, she invited me to a concert in Edinburgh. This is a recording of that concert. I’ve been listening to it the past couple of weeks. The cellist in the concert – that’s your mum.”

Michael subsequently played a haunting piece of cello music. Of course, viewers knew that the murdered Sarah Polly was a music teacher and talented cellist. Alana described it as “beautiful” and she wasn’t wrong.

The music? Bach Cello Suite No.1 in G Major (BWV 1007). This is arguably the most famous of Bach’s cello suite, and considered by some to be one of the most beautiful and timeless cello suites. It serves as “a pinnacle of musical elegance and simplicity”.
