Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards once again vomits up the crimes of the disgraced BBC news presenter, but where is he now and what has he said about the film?

This major, feature-length factual drama explores how “one of the most powerful figures in television” groomed a vulnerable 17-year-old boy. It’s a difficult watch, if you choose to tune in. Of course, plenty won’t.

Starring Martin Clunes as Edwards, the film dramatises the newsreader’s double life as it spirals out of control. Following his conviction for making indecent images of children, he fled from public life.

But where is Huw Edwards now? And what has he said about the new film exposing his crimes? Here’s everything you need to know.

Where is Huw Edwards now?

It’s been two years since Huw Edwards pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children at Westminster Magistrates Court in 2024. On September 16 that same year, a judge handed the former news presenter a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. The judge also told him to attend a sex offender treatment programme.

Huw had already admitted that he possessed 41 illegal images sent to him on WhatsApp. These included some showing a child aged between seven and nine.

The nation reacted with shock and disgust that such a respected figure – the same man who announced Queen Elizabeth II’s death live on air – committed these crimes. The BBC said it felt “appalled” and described his actions as a “betrayal” of audience trust.

It’s no surprise at all that father-of-five Huw Edwards disappeared from public life, only occasionally being spotted shopping in his local area. In January this year, The Sun pictured him trying to keep a low profile as he visited a Starbucks in South Wales. He wore a black cap while smoking a vape.

Where is he doing in 2026?

Now, 64, Huw Edwards is reportedly leading a reclusive life in South Wales. He is said to be staying at his elderly mother’s bungalow in remote Wales. Members of the public have spotted him in Swansea and Carmarthenshire. He has even been spotted taking his mother for walks along the beach in Llanelli.

As of March 2026, disgraced former BBC newsreader Huw Edwards, 64, is keeping a low profile in Wales, primarily staying at his mother’s bungalow in Carmarthenshire.

Following his conviction in 2024 for accessing indecent images of children, where he received a six-month suspended sentence, his life has changed significantly:

He is on the sex offenders’ register for seven years and is required to take part in rehabilitation sessions.

Huw previously lived in the wealthy area of Dulwich, in London. He, his wife Vicky Flind, and their family lived in a six-bedroom £4.75 million property. However, he put the house on the market as part of his divorce proceedings last year.

Huw Edwards is a registered sex offender and will remain on the sex offenders register for another five years. However, he is free to travel around the UK, and even abroad, so long as he gives police seven days notice.

A recent statement about the Channel 5 film (see below) implies that Huw plans to return to public life in one way or another in the future.

Will he work again?

In December 2025, the disgraced former BBC presenter updated his social media profiles with a new, professional black-and-white headshot. The photo prompted widespread media speculation about a potential attempt to rehabilitate his public image or “make a comeback”. However, following an angry backlash from the public, victim groups, and MPs, Huw Edwards subsequently removed the headshot.

It is very unlikely Huw will ever work in TV again. He cannot work with or near children either.

Meanwhile, Huw still hasn’t paid back his £200,000 salary to the BBC after he was still paid for five months following his arrest. Despite numerous calls to return the money, it is understood he has so far declined to. In his final year as a presenter, he earned between £475,000 and £479,999 a year.

In the pre-sentence report, Consultant Psychiatrist & Neuropsychiatrist Michael Isaac implied that Huw Edwards  hoped to dedicate time to volunteering. Mr Isaac wrote: “He has stated his willingness to engage with the Probation Service to undertake planned intervention to reduce the likelihood of further offending.”

Huw Edwards breaks silence on Channel 5 film

Just this week, Bridgend-born Huw Edwards shared a rare statement ahead of Channel 5’s new factual drama, Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the disgraced former news presenter criticised the drama’s production company, Wonderhood. In a statement, he claimed: “They made no attempt to check with me the truth of any aspect of their narrative before going ahead with the production. They belatedly asked for a response after the drama had been made, while reserving the right to edit any such response.

“They also refused to disclose whether any of those making allegations had been paid for their contributions. Channel 5’s ‘factual drama’ is hardly likely to convey the reality of what happened.”

Huw admitted he had not seen the drama and added: “It is difficult to see how this approach can be considered remotely responsible or fair. Or be in compliance with key sections of the Ofcom code on broadcast standards.”

He also went on to offer his “regret and remorse” for his crimes and revealed he is planning to produce his “own account of these terrible events”. However, he admitted that it’s a “slow process” due to the “fragile state” of his health.
