If you loved Unchosen, this 'traumatising' British cult thriller with Unforgotten star should be your next watch
This infamous 'chiller' also features a Downton Abbey star
Unchosen revolves around a British religious sect “hiding in plain sight”. It’s an unsettling watch – but it’s nothing compared to the most chilling cult thriller of the 21st century so far.
The new Netflix series follows Adam (Asa Butterfield), a respected member of a cult, and his wife, Rosie (Molly Windsor). Their lives are upended by the arrival of Sam (Fra Fee), a mysterious stranger who awakens dark secrets and desires. The longer he sticks around, the more Rosie starts to see her life differently.
It isn’t a real cult, but it is inspired by the real (and rather unpleasant) experiences of ex-cult members.
If you’re partial to a new documentary about the occult, or hunting for another cult thriller, we have just the thing. That said, brace yourself: it is one of the most dread-inducing, disturbing British horror movies of all time.

Unchosen fans should watch Kill List
Kill List, directed by Ben Wheatley (Sightseers, High-Rise, Meg 2), was released in 2011.
It follows Jay (Neil Maskell, from Hijack and The Football Factory), a former British soldier who’s since turned his aptitude for bloodshed into a career as a hitman with his pal Gal (Michael Smiley).
In the wake of a disastrous job abroad, the duo take on a mysterious new assignment: three seemingly simple targets. Better yet, it comes with a big payday.
You may be thinking, ‘This doesn’t sound like it has anything to do with cults.’ Oh, but it does. Everyone in Jay and Gal’s orbit is… off, whether they’re leaving strange, carved-in symbols on household items or constantly telling them, “Thank you.”

Fear and paranoia begin to consume Jay, straining his friendship with Gal and his marriage (his wife is played by MyAnna Buring, who appeared in The Responder and Unforgotten series 6).
Naturally, there’s only so much we can tell you without spoiling it. But, be warned: anyone with a nervous disposition, aversion to brutal violence, or if you’re put off by intense misery and harrowing horror, maybe stay away.
However, if you’re interested in cults and want something in its genre that goes to true extremes, it is a peerlessly horrific (and extraordinary) movie.

How to watch Kill List
Kill List is available to stream via Prime Video’s StudioCanal add-on.
If you don’t want to commit to an extra £4.99 per month, Amazon offers a seven-day trial, so you can watch Kill List and then cancel your plan (unless you like what else StudioCanal has to offer).
It’s also available to buy or rent digitally via Amazon, Apple TV, and Sky Store.
Unfortunately, it’s not available as part of any standard streaming package in the UK. Of course, if you want to go old school, you can buy it on DVD or Blu-ray.
