Is Joe Tate dead in Emmerdale? Ned Porteous’ future on soap confirmed as fans fear the worst following explosion
Emmerdale aired some shocking scenesEmmerdale fans have been left wondering if Joe Tate is dead after the dramatic explosive cliffhanger tonight (August 27).
Joe made his huge return to Emmerdale back in 2024. And ever since he has been central to some huge storylines. But it was him stealing Caleb’s kidney for himself that seems to keep resurfacing. And that’s why Caleb was so happy to get revenge on him by helping Dawn flee.
But everything took a heartbreaking turn when Dawn changed her mind and showed up at the marquee – just in time for Jimmy driving his car straight into it. Tragically tonight’s episode confirmed the King legend is dead. But when the marquee exploded, Joe was still trapped inside.
So is Joe Tate dead in Emmerdale? Let’s have a look.
Joe Tate caught in explosion in Emmerdale
Joe finally thought he had everything he ever wanted. But he actually had no idea that Dawn was leaving him because she believed he attacked Billy. Then both of them were caught up in the huge wedding crash. And tonight’s episode ended on an even bigger cliffhanger.
Following the crash, Joe was trapped, unable to get free. So, Dawn was determined to stay with him so they could talk. She explained that she made a huge mistake believing Billy, and all that she actually wants is to be a family with Joe.
He was obviously heartbroken at everything that had happened. But in that moment, he knew that he loved Dawn, and so he told her he forgave her. But the emergency services hadn’t arrived yet, and Jimmy’s car was leaking petrol, meaning they were on borrowed time.
So, Joe begged Dawn to leave the marquee, as he needed to know that she and their unborn baby was safe. And, she left. But just as she got outside, the marquee exploded – with Joe Tate still inside.
Naturally now every Emmerdale fan is wondering if Joe Tate is dead, and if actor Ned Porteous has left the soap.
Is Joe Tate dead? Could Ned Porteous be leaving Emmerdale?
While Emmerdale have not publicly commented on Joe Tate’s fate, there has been no rumours or reports that he is set to leave the soap. Over the last few months reports surfaced that Nick Miles and Olivia Bromley were departing – but nothing mentioned Ned Porteous.
Also, with the return of Graham, and the new arrival of Thea – who clearly has a history with the Tates – it would be strange for Emmerdale to kill him off at such a huge time for the family.
Producer Laura Shaw also recently spoke to The Mirror about Joe and Caleb’s ongoing feud. And what she said definitely made it seem like Joe sticks around.
She told them: “And certainly, what I can say is off the back of the wedding, there’s going to be… that chasm is going to open even wider between those Caleb and Joe.
“It will be one of our kind of big stories, certainly through the rest of this year. And into next year.”
Not only that, but Caleb actor Will Ash teased that there will be “war” between Joe and Caleb whenever he finds out about his part in Billy and Dawn’s escape plan.
All of this put together definitely makes it sound like Joe Tate is sticking around. So, it implies that he doesn’t die in Emmerdale. However, obviously it’s important to note that this is SoapLand and anything could happen – all of those comments could be red herrings.
Emmerdale viewers will just have to tune in to the remainder of the week to see what else happens.
