Lynley on BBC One: Episode 3 welcomes Sienna Guillory, Liam Garrigan, and Jeff Rawle among others

Lynley episode 3 sees DI Thomas Lynley and DS Barbara Havers tackle a new case, and this time there’s a new brand new cast of famous faces in the guest cast – not least a soap supervillain.

In the latest instalment of the Norfolk-based crime drama – entitled Careless in Red – DI Lynley is horrified to discover the body of a young man whilst out for his morning run… (Which we suspect was really producers chance to get actor Leo Suter in Lycra).

The victim, a well-known local lothario, appears to have died in a kayaking accident. But, as Lynley and Havers investigate further, they’re led to numerous possible suspects and the revelation of a long-buried secret.

Step forward a cast packed with stars from soaps, film, and TV dramas such as Fortitude, Strike Back, and Top Boy. Here’s who plays who in the cast list of Lynley epispode 3.

Sienna Guillory plays Della Kerne

Kettering-born Sienna Guillory, 50, portrays the mother of the murder victim Della Kerne in the guest cast of Lynley episode 3.

The actress, former model, and mum-of-two is probably best known for her film career. She made her screen debut in 1993’s Riders, a TV adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s novel of the same name. She won the role of Fenella Maxwell, largely because she could ride a horse!

Sienna’s multiple film roles include Emma in The Time Machine, Jamie’s girlfriend in Love Actually, Driscoll in Meg 2, and Jill Valentine in Resident Evil: Apocalypse and its two sequels. On TV, she’s known for appearing in Luther, Silo, Fortitude, Lucky Man, The Virgin Queen, and The Buccaneers. She also played Helen in Helen of Troy.

Gossip fans might also know her for small-to-moderate collection of famous husbands. She was previously married to Nick Moran, he of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows fame. But after divorce in 2000 after three years, she is now wed to Enzo Cilenti, star of The Serpent Queen.

Lynley episode 3 guest cast: Liam Garrigan stars as Ben Kerne

Kingston upon Hull-born actor Liam Garrigan, 44, portrays Ben Kerne in Lynley. The character is married to Della Kerne, and grieving the death of his son Alex.

Liam is perhaps most famous for portraying Nic Yorke in Holby City, a role he played in 2003. It was his very first screen role, and he was 22.

Since then, the actor and those piercing blue eyes of his have appeared in films such as Transformers: The Last Knight, and The Legend of Hercules. His been in multiple big TV shows, including Ultimate Force, Raw, The Chase, The Pillars of the Earth, Land Girls, The Terror, and Strike Back. He’s had plenty to success in the States, too, appearing in 24: Live Another Day, and Once Upon a Time.

More recently, Liam has played Samuel Colbourne in Sanditon, PS Bob Blake in The Long Shadow, Fletcher in Belgravia: The Next Chapter, and Leonard Collins in Moonflower Murders.

Liam is married to musician Beth Rowley with whom he has two children.

Jeff Rawle is Dr James Bessey

Brummie actor Jeff Rawle stars as Dr James Bessey, a GP who occasionally bends the rules for his patients, and saw the victim shortly before he died.

Soap fans will know the actor for playing serial killer Silas Blissett in Hollyoaks, a role he played on and off between 2010 and 2022. Jeff won multiple awards for the portrayal of Silas, who was truly unhinged. In 2022, his grandson, Bobby, finally killed off his character.

A jobbing actor since the 70s, Jeff made his name playing Billy in the 1973 TV series Billy Liar, before going on to portray Paul in Faith in the Future, Colin in Microsoap, and Roger Fenn in Doc Martin.He famously played George Dent in the iconic comedy Drop the Dead Donkey between 1990 and 2008.

Other notable roles include Clive Grey in You, Me & Them, Geoffrey in The Durrells, and kindly Henry in the most recent series of The Couple Next Door.

Jeff, 74, has been married to Brookside actress Nina Marc since 1998.

Lynley episode 3 guest cast: Rupert Evans as Hugh Larwood

Stafordshire-born Rupert, 48, plays a rather unpleasant character in the guest cast of Lynley episode 3, who is probably capable of murder even if he’s not guilty of this particular one!

Rupert is perhaps best known for playing Harry Greenwood in the Charmed reboot, between 2018 and 2022. Finding success in the States, he also played Frank Frink, one of the main characters in The Man in the High Castle.

Earlier roles on British TV included Toby Edwards in Paradise Heights, Jamie Doughan in Rockface, King Richard IV in The Palace, and Godwyn in World Without End.

Between 2013 and 2014, Rupert starred as Edmund Allingham in The Village, a period drama following the residents of one English village. More recently, he’s appeared in Black Cake, Wisting, Moonflower Murders, and Truth & Treason.

His film roles include playing the FBI agent John Myers in Guillermo del Toro’s 2004 fantasy superhero film Hellboy.

Lynley episode 3 guest cast: Christopher Fulford portrays Dave Parsons

London-born Christopher Fulford, 70, plays Dave Parsons in Lynley, who has a mysterious connection to the family of the deceased.

The actor made his name playing punk rocker Alex in the 1981-1982 sitcom Sorry, I’m a Stranger Here Myself. That was his first ever screen role, and he subsequently went on to appear in dozens of TV series including Tales of the Unexpected, A Married Man, Jack the Ripper, The Ruth Rendell Mysteries, and Cracker.

He is perhaps best known for playing Frankie in Ghostbusters of East Finchley, Ian Hart in The Last Train, Jarvis in Servants, Ray Scanlon in The Brief, and DC Fitzgerald in Whitechapel. More recently, he’s popped up in Top Boy, and A Confession. Horror fans will have seen him playing Sam in Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later released in 2025.

In real life, Christopher is married to Doctor Who actress Camille Coduri.

Justine Mitchell portrays Beth Larwood

Dublin-born, London-based actress Justine Mitchell stars as Madeleine’s snotty mum Beth. And she’s very impressed with Lynley’s aristocratic background.

She is probably best known for portraying Elaine Lynch in County Clare crime drama Smother, which also starred her Lynley co-star Niamh Walsh. Justine actually received an IFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2022 for her role as Elaine in the TV show.

As well as a thriving career in theatre, Justine has appeared in the Irish sketch show Your Bad Self, as well as the dramas Amber, Cheat, Trying, Conversations with Friends, Bad Sisters, and Black Doves.

Vanessa Emme stars as Donna Rathmell

Irish TV and stage actress Vanessa Emme – who is of Filipino descent – stars as Donna Rathwell. She becomes part of the murder investigation after Lynley basically breaks into her house to use her phone after finding the dead body. But actually, it turns out she knew the victim…

Vanessa has appeared in multiple Irish dramas such as The Fall, Dublin Murders, and Bloodlands. As well as popping up in hard-hitting dramas including Three Families, and Little Boy Blue.

More recently, she’s best known for playing DS Layla Walsh in The Chelsea Detective, a role she’s played since 2023 to the present day.

Who else appears in the guest cast of Lynley episode 3?

Mia Jenkins is murder victim Alex’s sister Keira Kerne. Although she’s only 25 (playing a much younger age in Lynley), she already has a pretty extensive career. She’s played Hannah Reynolds in EastEnders, Alex in The Lodge, Emma in Soy Luna, and Danielle Marks in Hanna. 

More recently, Mia is known for portraying Megan in Mood, Ursa in Domina, and Lexi Roberts in Geek Girl.

Brad Alexander portrays murder victim Alex Kerne. He’s famous for playing Edward in series 4 of You, which was a pretty impressive first screen role.

Grace Doherty plays Madeleine Larwood. She started her career in several episodes of Casualty playing Olivia Cranham in 2015 and 2016. Grace has since appeared in Call the Midwife, Grantchester, and Towards Zero.

Tom Andrews plays Sgt. Steve Athil. He’s been on our screens since 2007 and has played Kevin in Feel Good,  Seb Harding in Showtrial, and Dr Tom Armstrong in This England. He recently portrayed Marquess of Queensbury in A Thousand Blows on Disney+.
