Is there a series 2 of Lynley?

Up until now, there’s been no official news about a series 2 of Lynley from BBC One. But cast member Daniel Mays has just shared an exciting update with his fans.

The actor plays grumpy DCI Brian Nies in the cast of the detective drama, who has quite a chip on his shoulder about posh boy Lynley. And they WILL be back for some more sparring in a series 2 of Lynley. Sharing the news on his official Instagram, Daniel posted a photo of himself in character with the caption: “Why so serious?”

Daniel, who recently played John Worboys in Believe Me, continued: “A glorious, whirlwind two weeks in the Emerald Isle shooting Season 2 of Lynley. All my love & thanks to the amazing Irish crew, producers, directors and top actors for working so hard and for making this such a special show to work on.

“Shout out to the ever brilliant @leo.suter@sofiabarclay, Michael Workéyè and @msdeirdremullins for leading from the front and being such a joy to perform with. We’ve got some wonderful new story lines and characters for you this year so watch this space.”

Daniel also revealed that he was reunited with actor Geff Francis on set. He joked: “Last time I saw him I was sucking out his soul in Ashes to Ashes. He was looking well on it!”

What happened at the end of series 1?

Pitched as a mismatched duo, Lynley and Havers actually had a lot more in common than they first realised. They started with a touch of frostbite, but their relationship soon turned into a warm hug. And the ending of Lynley left the door wide open for them to return…

In the final episode, Lynley and Havers investigated the death of homeless teenager Kimmo Thorne. The investigation led Lynley and Havers to a church with ties to a local drug gang, but they soon discovered connections to an unsolved murder investigated by their retiring colleague, DI Horwood. They were subsequently confronted with the uncomfortable reality of corruption from within the precinct.

Lynley discovered his predecessor DI Derek Horwood was corrupt. For the right money, he had turned a blind eye to some of the drug gangs in the area. And Lynley strongly suspected that his boss DCI Brian Nies was also complicit. Something to be explored in series 2 no doubt!
