Netflix is about to remove some of your favourite TV shows and movies
Netflix is losing some of its biggest shows and movies in January 2026, and another streaming platform is to blame.
It’s one of the drawbacks of the streaming boom: you have access to the best films on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney Plus, and yet, sometimes you can’t find the one thing you want to watch.
When something is available to stream, it’s either owned by the company (for example, Wake Up Dead Man is a Netflix original) or it’s been licensed to that platform for a specific time. In short, unless it’s got a streamer’s branding, a film or series never has a permanent place in any library.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Friends would be removed from Netflix. Soon after, the Harry Potter films were confirmed to be leaving. However, that’s not all – see the full list of titles below.
What movies and shows are leaving Netflix in January 2025?
The Harry Potter films are being removed from Netflix on January 1, alongside Friends and The Big Bang Theory.
Suits will also leave the platform on January 2, with five seasons of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and all of Mad Men getting the chop too.
If you want to point the finger, it should be at HBO Max. The new streaming platform (owned by Warner Bros) is set to launch in the UK in March 2026, so that’s why the studio is reclaiming its biggest titles from Netflix.
