What is Murder Before Evensong about?

The plot of Murder Before Evensong centres on Daniel, who shares Champton rectory with his widowed mother – opinionated, fearless, ever-so-slightly annoying Audrey – and his two dachshunds, Cosmo and Hilda.

The synopsis reads: “When Daniel announces a plan to install a lavatory in the church, the parish is suddenly (and unexpectedly) divided. As lines are drawn, long-buried secrets come dangerously close to destroying the apparent calm of the village.”

But, of course, it’s not all about a toilet! A body is subsequently found dead at the back of the church, having been stabbed in the neck with a pair of secateurs.

We’re told: “As the police move in and the bodies start piling up, Daniel is the only one who can try and keep his fractured community together… and catch a killer.”

For those less Godly among us, Evensong is a church service that includes singing, readings, and prayers, usually held in the evening. It’s a time for reflection and contemplation.

How many episodes is it?

Murder Before Evensong is a six-episode drama, with each instalment expected to be one hour long.

Acorn TV typically doesn’t release all episodes of a show at once. Instead, they usually drop new episodes on a weekly basis. The series will also air on Channel 5.
