Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man leaves us with a lot to think about… the top thing being “what now?!”

Well, creator Steven Knight is always a man with a trick up his sleeve. In October last year, he confirmed a Peaky Blinders new series is coming. Well, TWO new series.

However, the new version of the motley Birmingham mob will be very different from what we’re used to. And that’s before we even factor in everything that went down in the movie – which definitely changes a few things!

With so much to unpack, here is everything you need to know about how The Immortal Man sets up the Peaky Blinders new series.

What will happen in the Peaky Blinders new series?

First off: we’re getting a HUGE time jump in the new Peaky Blinders new series, so prepare yourselves.

The first six series were set between 1919 and 1934, while The Immortal Man leaped forward into the middle of World War II’s Birmingham Blitz in November 1940. When the show returns, we’ll be leaping even further into the future – and it will centre on Britain in 1953.

After the bombings of WWII decimated the city, Birmingham is on a mission to build itself back up bigger and better than ever, turning its attention to concrete and steel.

According to the BBC’s official synopsis: “The race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”

Steven Knight teased: “The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”

Cillian Murphy, who plays Tommy Shelby, will be back, albeit in a different role. He’ll be taking a backseat and will be behind the scenes on the Peaky Blinders new series as an executive producer.

How does Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man set up the new series?

This is your last warning for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man spoilers. Don’t say we haven’t tried.

The Immortal Man centres on the Blitz, which the 1953 gang will be trying to rise from. That in itself is a massive leaping-off point. However, they’ll have to do it without any of the major Shelby family members to help.

Most prominently, Tommy Shelby is dead. He sacrificed himself for the greater good – just like he planned to do when he hit the battlefield all the way back in 1914. Stopping a Nazi plan to collapse the British economy came at the ultimate cost. Injured beyond recovery, he asked his son Duke (Barry Keoghan) to finish him off. In tears, he did as his father asked.

To add insult to injury, Ada (Sophie Rundle) is a goner too. Beckett (Tim Roth) tasked Duke with killing her as a test, which Duke failed. As a result, he watched Beckett shoot her in the head in broad daylight. Duke didn’t exactly have the best relationship with his aunt, but that is going to leave a very guilty mark.

At the end of the movie, Duke remains leader of the Blinders. But the 13-year time jump to the show will see him pushing 40, so it’s unlikely Barry Keoghan will reprise the role. Instead, we’ll probably see a recast if Duke remains leader. He’ll also likely be haunted by what went down… in an eerily similar way to his dear old dad, who battled his own demons of those loved and lost.

With no other family members to turn to, he will have been on his own to handle the Blinders, whoever they may be now.

What is the Peaky Blinders new series release date?

We have some good news! The Peaky Blinders new series is already in production. It’s believed the team are aiming for a 2027 release, although the BBC is yet to confirm.

Filming started on March 5th, 2026 – just a day before the movie dropped in cinemas. Leaked photographs from the set show the crew filming inside Queen’s Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent. The Grade II-listed building has been around since the 1850s, making it the perfect “old-timey” location.

Despite there being no official casting announcements, photographers spotted three young actors in costume on the street outside (though please note: none of them were wearing Peaky caps).

Cal O’Driscoll, Fintan Shevlin, and Jacob George Wright were all seen in smart suits and matching coats. All three are relatively unknown names with a handful of credits each. Cal’s past roles include Channel 5’s The Teacher and Hulu’s Obituary; Fintan had a small role in Netflix’s How To Get to Heaven From Belfast, while Jacob appeared in two episodes of Sky’s Atomic.

Most of the filming, however, will take place in Birmingham’s Digbeth Loc. Studios.
