Where's Finn Shelby? Peaky Blinders want 'justice' after major Immortal Man 'plot hole'

Could Finn Shelby still return to Peaky Blinders?

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man sees the return of several characters from the show – but Finn Shelby isn’t one of them.

The new Netflix movie takes place in 1940, six years after the ending of the original series. Tommy (Cillian Murphy) returns to Birmingham at the height of the Second World War, where he reunites with his son, Duke (Cillian Murphy), and tries to stop a Nazi plot that could cripple the country.

Sophie Rundle reprises her role as Ada, alongside Stephen Graham’s Hayden Stagg and a few more familiar faces.

However, Finn (Harry Kirton) is nowhere to be seen, nor is he mentioned. For some fans, this is a “plot hole” that’s hard to ignore.

What happened to Finn in Peaky Blinders?

Finn always struggled to climb the ranks of the Peaky Blinders, despite being Tommy’s younger brother.

Things shifted for him in series 5. He disobeyed Tommy’s orders and ended up getting shot in a Chinatown gunfight. He was eventually put in charge of the betting arm of the business, supervising Billy Grade (Emmett Scanlan) as they start fixing football matches.

In the finale, he revealed the Peaky Blinders’ plans to assassinate Oswald Mosley to Billy, unaware that he was an informant for the IRA. Unbeknownst to him, this led to the deaths of Polly Gray (Helen McCrory), Aberama Gold (Aidan Gillen), and Barney (Cosmo Jarvis).

In series 6, he married Mary Bone, who wasn’t readily accepted by the Shelbys. Worse, he was blind to Billy’s treachery, and they often drank and did drugs together.

When Tommy realised that Billy was a rat, Finn was ordered to execute him. Instead, he turned the gun on Isaiah (Daryl McCormack), unaware that Duke had already emptied the first two chambers.

Duke took the gun and shot Billy, before banishing Finn from the family, “by order of the Peaky [bleep] Blinders”.

“I will come for you,” Finn vowed, and that was the last time we saw him.

Fans frustrated after The Immortal Man ‘forgets’ Finn

Despite promising to get revenge on Duke, Finn doesn’t appear in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. The movie has already proven divisive with fans, but this is one of the biggest complaints.

“I know Finn was disowned, but he should’ve made some appearance,” one user argued on Reddit. “I think you’re supposed to assume Finn is off fighting but why not even mention him?” another wrote.

“It felt like they just forgot about Finn,” another wrote. “Justice for Finn,” a third added.

Others have speculated that Finn could return in the sequel series, which will be set in the 1950s and follow the next generation of Shelbys.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Finn and Charlie teamed up against Duke due to jealousy,” one theorised.

“I was surprised Finn was nowhere in this movie, but maybe he’ll be part of the next thing coming?” another commented.

“The elimination of Charles and Finn also was another issue, they could’ve at least given us a glimpse of them and mention the full story later in the spin-offs,” a third wrote.
