The price had to be slashed to sell

Rolf Harris‘ multi-million pound riverside house, featured in a new documentary, has now sold – but only after the price was dramatically slashed.

The convicted paedophile lived in the waterfront property in Berkshire with his wife Alwen and his daughter Bindi.

Rolf had bought the house at the height of his fame and saw it as a ‘sign’ of his success.

But in Rolf Harris: Primetime Predator, it’s confirmed some sickening behaviour went on behind its closed doors.

On the day of the Queen’s 2012 Diamond Jubilee concert, he was tucked away in the study of the house looking at indecent images of children.

Hours later, Rolf sent a birthday message to the Queen outside Buckingham Palace with millions watching around the world.

Here’s what happened to the house following Rolf’s death from throat cancer in 2023.

Rolf’s house was located in the picturesque village of Bray, in Maidenhead, Berkshire. Viewers of Rolf Harris: Primetime Predator are given their first glimpse of the property in episode 1.

It’s said how he and Alwen purchased the house after he’d become a household name, both in the UK and his home country Australia.

In episode 2, police explain how Rolf’s house was raided as part of Operation Yewtree in 2013.

Ben Markham, Detective Inspector for the Metropolitan Police, says: “When we had initially gone to search Rolf Harris’ home address, we seized copies of his diaries. They were all reviewed.

“One of the dates in the diary showed he was taking part in the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations. And on the day he was doing that, he was  also looking at indecent images of children on the computer.”

Viewers see footage of reporters standing outside Rolf’s home as news of his arrest grew. One woman buzzed his intercom: “Can I ask you for your reaction to the reports you’ve been arrested on suspicion of sex offences?”

Rolf can be heard replying: “No comment.”

What happened to Rolf Harris’ house?

Rolf was released three-and-a-half years into his five year prison sentence in May 2017. He returned home to Alwen at their riverside house in Bray.

In the Primetime Predator documentary, it’s explained the house “became a jail”. Rolf lived in the property as a “recluse” until his death in May 2023.

Rolf’s death certificate confirmed he died from neck cancer and “frailty of old age” at his home. He was 93.

Alwen died following a stroke 15 months later. The main beneficiary of their estate was their daughter Bindi. The couple’s property was then put up for sale.

However, estate agents struggled to find a buyer willing meeting its £4million price tag. In March this year, it was listed for auction with BTG Eddisons auctioneers. The guide price was slashed down to £1.95million.

Before the auction took place, a notice was listed on the audtioneers’ website.

It warned hopeful owners: “Addendum: Prospective buyers are advised that there is a sensitive matter regarding this lot. Please contact us for further details.”

The property is now marked as sold.
