The Hairdresser Mysteries on BBC One: Nostalgic 70s soundtrack includes tracks from T. Rex, Sister Sledge, and Alvin Stardust
We're lost in music!
The Hairdresser Mysteries introduces amateur sleuth hair stylist Lily Petal who is obsessed with all things 70s, including the music of the era which features heavily in the soundtrack.
Her clothes, salon, and furniture are all straight out of the past. Even though she lives in the present day, she adores the fashion and style of the Carefree 70s. Of course the decade is remembered for its disco, punk rock, and bell-bottoms.
Unsurprisingly perhaps, the six-part cosy crime is packed with 70s tunes, and Lily and her pals aren’t afraid to prance around dancing. It’s part of the charm of the show.
Here’s a complete rundown of the soundtrack featured in the BBC One cosy crime The Hairdresser Mysteries.

What is the title tune music?
Debbie Wiseman OBE composed the title track. The British composer, 63, is known for her work across film, television and the concert hall. Some might know her as a radio and television presenter.
Debbie was one of 11 composers chosen to write New Water Music for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant in 2012.
On TV, she’s known for composing music for Vampire Killers, Wolf Hall, Father Brown, Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators, and The Coroner. She’s also worked on Dickensian, Judge John Deed, Land Girls, and The Upper Hand.

‘The 70s and 80s were both amazing eras musically’
Talking about The Hairdresser Mysteries soundtrack, PC Adam Watson actor Ben Castle-Gibb told us he’d have loved to have some David Bowie on there. He said: “I can envision Adam walking into the salon to Rebel Rebel. 70s music has always been my jam. I grew up listening to it. My parents are heavy into David Bowie. My dog’s called Ziggy. The playlist for my character Adam is just my usual playlist that I listen to. Lots of Dire Straits, Ziggy Stardust, Elton John. The 70s and 80s were both amazing eras musically.”
Meanwhile, Guy Henry – who plays Race Runard – said he’d have liked to add some 60s hit. He said: “Make Your Own Kind of Music by Mama Cass, I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor. I could go on and on!”
Executive producer Will Trotter continued: “When we walked on the hairdresser salon set, you feel transported to this other world. Jim’s writing creates this heightened world, combined with the nostalgia of the 70s aesthetic and its music, all encased in crime stories.”
