Trigger Point filming locations for series 3 including a stunning landmark you can visit
From an old Shredded Wheat factory to the site of Henry VIII's birth!Trigger Point filming locations are normally bleak parts of London, but series 3 has actually surprisingly thrown in a beautiful landmark you can even visit.
Lana Washington and her team are racing around town to try to stop bomber Steven Wyles in the six-part series.
Wyles is on a revenge mission after a number of his friends were killed by the Coldmarsh project, which saw buildings stuffed full of asbestos knocked down.
So what filming locations did the cast and crew use in Trigger Point series 3 on ITV1? You especially might be wondering where exactly the spectacular building at the end of episode 3 is.

Trigger Point filming locations: Rich’s bomb blast in episode 3
The most dramatic scenes of the whole series happen towards the end of episode 3 and were shot in Greenwich in London. Lana and her crew were sent to the famous landmark when the bomber attached several hostages to pressure sensitive devices. If they moved off the device, they would explode. While the tension grew you might have been distracted by the spectacular building in the background. It’s the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.
The Old Royal Naval College is a UNESCO World Heritage Site designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the architect behind St Paul’s Cathedral. Work began on the building in 1696 and it was originally designed as a hospital. Before that the site housed Greenwich Palace which was the birthplace of famous monarchs including Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.
Watching Trigger Point you can also see Greenwich Park and the Royal Observatory in the background, where you can stand on the world-famous Prime Meridian Line. As Lana conferred with the team on how to tackle the bombs, you could also see Canary Wharf behind her.
But the main drama was at the Old Royal Naval College. One by one people were released as the team cut the wires. However, Rich Manning was left with the final person. Struggling with his nerves, Rich took her place only to cut the wrong wire. We then saw a massive blast involving Rich.
You can see the exterior of the Old Royal Naval College for free. A standard ticket to go inside is £17.50, with the stunning Painted Hall the highlight. Also down the road from the college is the famous sailing ship the Cutty Sark.

What filming locations were used in Trigger Point episode 1?
Now, not every Trigger Point filming location is a stunning world famous building! Episode 1 opened with Lana and her team called to a bomb left in an abandoned black cab. However, Lana soon found an unfortunate person inside the vehicle.
In the show it was described as a wasteland in Southwark, which is south of the River Thames. But, in actual fact, the building where the bomber secretly observed Lana and her team is a derelict factory in St Albans, Hertfordshire.
Maanuv Thiara, who plays DCI Amar Batra, said he was covered in mud for one of the scenes shot there. He said: “We filmed that in the dead of winter at the old Shredded Wheat factory in St Albans. And it was muddy on set and off – when we got there we had to lose the first day of filming because the place was like a bog and none of our trucks could get to set!”
The factory provided a moody backdrop as Lana struggled to work out how to disarm the device. “We have a grey flag. Chemical weapon. Chemical weapon in the cab,” she said fearfully. Yep, even Lana was worried by a chemical weapon.
Why did Queen Camilla visit the set of Trigger Point?
Queen Camilla attended some scenes shot near the Brent Cross Civic Centre in north London as part of ITV’s 70th birthday celebrations. Camilla spoke to executive producer Jed Mercurio, who explained the shot involved an explosion but that was a special effect that would be added in later.
Vicky McClure also chatted to Camilla. Vicky recalled: “I remember when it was spoken about, I had to ask a few questions. I said, ‘What do you mean the queen? The queen of what? Oh, the Queen!’.
“There was a real buzz around the set, everyone was really excited. She did the clapper board and had a play with the focus pull. We were filming an explosion in VFX, so I think she was maybe a little disappointed that nothing really happened.
“It was a great day, she walked around the set and I talked her through the bomb suit, just to give her a bit of an idea of what we do. I was a bit nervous because the world’s eyes are on you – it’s world news when the Queen comes to town and I didn’t want to trip over or swear! But ultimately it was just a really nice chat.”

Where is Trigger Point series 3 filmed?
It’s fair to say the cast and crew whizzed all over the place for series 3. The exterior building shots for the dramatic scenes where Rich fought to save a university lecturer were filmed in Welwyn Garden City. Although one aerial shot was actually of Croydon.
When we saw Lana go to head office to discuss how to tackle the bomber, the exterior shot of police headquarters was the real New Scotland Yard. New Scotland Yard is the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police and situated on London’s Victoria Embankment.
In episode 5, we’ll see a sweeping shot of The City of London including The Gherkin building.
Throughout the series we see antagonist Steven Wyles go to visit his brother at a stunning house. The exterior shots were of a property in north London. The house featured heavily in the final episode.
