Where is John and what about Robert? Emmerdale fans furious at episode ending

'They don’t have hair gel in prison!'

Mack was finally rescued in Emmerdale tonight, but John is on the run and Robert is still stuck in prison.

The villagers were in shock as news spread about John’s secret life, but one thing seems to have been forgotten in all this – an innocent man is behind bars for something he didn’t do.

While fans are relieved that Mack is OK, the episode’s ending has annoyed viewers – particularly the lack of acknowledgment that Robert Sugden was right.

Mack got out of the bunker

The episode opened with Mack injecting himself with the syringe left behind by John. As he hallucinated images of Charity, it didn’t seem like Mack had long left to live.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, a drowsy Aaron managed to share that Mack was in a bunker near the cottage. Charity immediately dashed to the scene. She was told to go home by DS Jordan, but of course she didn’t listen.

Charity followed the police team as they combed the woods. When the bunker was located, Charity immediately dashed down the steps – despite the risk that she’d be contaminating a crime scene.

John had clearly got to the bunker first as Mack was no where to be seen. But for once, John had done the right thing – the only time we saw him in this episode was outside the hospital, where he dumped Mack in a wheelchair and legged it again.

In the hospital, Moira informed Chas that things weren’t looking good for Mack. “He’s got a broken shoulder, a shattered ankle. He’s dehydrated, malnourished and full of drugs. Should I go on?”

Moira called Charity, telling her to get to the hospital quick. But upon Charity’s arrival, things seemed brighter as Mack opened his eyes and asked Charity if he was dreaming.

John is on the run as Cain discovered truth about Nate

Cain Dingle returned to the hospital, having been up in Scotland. After his family filled him in, Cain shared that he’d given John a lift to the cottage, but didn’t know where he was now.

After telling his mum that John was the reason he was in hospital, Aaron later told Chas that there was so much more to the story.

Meanwhile, Victoria confided in Paddy that Robert had a theory that John killed Nate. She soon shared this news with Cain, who was understandably devastated.

At the hospital, Paddy told Moira, with Chas confirming that it was true – as Aaron had just told her the same thing. Moira rushed to Cain’s side at the cemetery. He was beside himself as he pointed out that John “spoke at Nate’s funeral”.

Police continued to look for John, but after leaving Mack at the hospital, his whereabouts remain unknown.

Fans angry that Robert is still in prison

Victoria spoke to Robert on the phone and apologised for not believing him. And when Chas said John fooled everyone, Aaron responded: “Well, not everyone.”

But largely, Robert’s innocence was ignored and fans are not happy that no one is pushing for him to be released from prison.

“Barely anyone acknowledging that Robert was right about everything and is still sitting in prison because of their collective stupidity,” wrote one fan on X.

A second fan said: “There better be way more to this apology from every single person in that village when he gets out. Because it’s greatly deserved after all of this.”

“Everyone is talking about Robert’s ‘theories’, but no one actually pushed to have him released?” said a third fan.

For the love of God, free Robert Sugden NOW!!” demanded a fourth fan. While a fifth fan added: “Listen. I know there’s a lot going on right now. Aaron’s just woken up, Mack is half dead, everyone is just now finding out John killed Nate. But can we maybe idk talk to the police & get Robert out of prison, since he’s in there for a crime he didn’t commit?”

Another fan wrote: “I cannot believe I watched a double episode of Emmerdale where the whole village finally finds out the truth about John, and Robert is STILL LOCKED UP !! Guys, they don’t have hair gel in prison!!!”

The final message is for Scarlett from her fiancé Scott. Her little boy Jude chips in from the background, and tells her he loves her, making it the first time she has ever heard him say it.

Although everyone receives their messages there’s another surprise in shore. The phone rings again and informs the camp they have a message from Sinitta.

There’s silence at the end of the line before Bill Withers' Lovely Day plays: a farewell gesture from Sinitta. The group then dance to the song a final time.

Stars take on South African Cyclone

Elsewhere on the show, the final five take part in the South African Cyclone. Adam announces to the camp that it’s time to tackle the legendary challenge and hands out costumes.

Harry is dressed as a lion, Mo a leopard, Craig an elephant, Scarlett a zebra, and Adam dons a giraffe costume - representing the Big Five.

The site is colossal and more epic than ever before, and as engines roar to a start, the course is flooded with water.

Harry goes first, battling through water beneath an army net, navigating a foam roller, and landing in his position. Craig follows, then Scarlett, then Adam, and then Mo makes an astonishing sprint finish to the final spot.
