BBC/Composite: EastEnders Insider Share By Joel Harley Oct 29 2025 By Joel Harley Oct 29 2025 Eve's criminal past explained as she and Suki face another adoption hurdle How did Eve land herself in prison? Eve Unwin Suki Panesar Share By Joel Harley Oct 29 2025 By Joel Harley Oct 29 2025 Eve Unwin’s past comes back to haunt her in EastEnders tonight (Wednesday, October 29) as she learns that she’ll need a reference from her family, due to her criminal record. Looking to adopt with Suki, the pair hold a meeting with the adoption worker, where he addresses her time in prison. Eve is relieved to learn that it won’t necessarily prevent her from being able to adopt – but she will need to provide a reference. This leaves only her mum, Norma, with whom she hasn’t always shared the best relationship. But what did Eve do that landed her in hot water with the law? Eve arrived in Walford in 2021 (Credit: BBC) Why crimes has Eve committed in EastEnders? Prior to arriving in Walford, Eve attended law school and became a successful solicitor. However, she lost her license and was sentenced to three years in prison for assaulting a man in 2018. It was in prison where Eve met Stacey Slater, who had herself been locked up for attacking Ruby Allen. Upon being released, Eve joined Stacey in Walford. In a show of solidarity with pal Stacey, she promptly walloped Zack in a case of mistaken identity. She’d thought he was Martin Fowler, you see, and wanted to give him his just desserts for marrying Ruby. Since then, she’s kept her nose (relatively) clean, finding life and love on The Square. This includes a job at Stacey’s Baps (quite the career trajectory), and her tumultuous marriage to Suki Panesar. Eve’s mother arrives in Walford next week (Credit: BBC) Who is Eve’s mother? Next week’s episodes will see Eve’s mum Norma arrive in Walford. Eve hasn’t always had the best relationship with her mother – who blamed her for the death of Eve’s twin sister. Meanwhile, her family’s homophobic reaction to her coming out at 19 resulted in their subsequent estrangement. Eve has since reconciled (to a point) with her family, even visiting her mum when Nish had her attacked last year. Still, a glowing reference is far from a sure thing, so Eve has every right to feel nervous about approaching her mum for a good word. What old wounds will Norma’s arrival reopen?
